I was watching Ghost last night, Sam can’t touch/pick up anything but he can sit on a chair?? Took up far too much of my time today thinking about that!

There’s always a car parking space in a movie. No one has to drive around for 20 minutes and then find the machine doesn’t take contactless and you don’t have any change Angry

Greenglassteacup · 22/09/2020 06:43

Everyone on tv shows and films leaving their curtains or blinds open at night, with their lights on.

KatherineJaneway · 22/09/2020 06:44

No one ever says goodbye on phone calls, they all just hang up rudely.

PopsicleHustler · 22/09/2020 06:53

Disgusting sex scenes. I hate them.

In horror films, they go up the stairs to investigate rather than running out the house. Or better yet they go up the stairs and arm themselves with something pathetic.

I'm rewatching Buffy at the moment, and although I've been enjoying James Masters in little clothing how does he bruise? How does he bleed?

How does he smoke? He doesn't have a heart beat so where is the tobacco going.

Any apocalypse / zombie film ever - stay where you are, don't go on a long journey (except 28 days later - at least they are responding to a radio signal).

6 months to 2years after the zombies have taken over the suburban gardens are all nicely kept. Do zombies garden in their free time? Do they also have a side line in make up and grooming for the non zombies who have perfect eyebrows and hairstyles.

Why are all the zombies adults? Unless it is part of the story, surely children would be easier for zombies to catch?

Also alcohol, Spike gets drunk but Angel can't get drunk?

Also why didn't Tara and Willow contribute to the rent and other bills? Did they just live rent free while Buffy was dead?

Oh and her new haircut, yes the new haircut is nice but both Riley and Giles comment on it when her hair is in a pony tail and doesn't look different.

Coding or "hacking" in any movie is complete BS, neither I nor the other dev I've worked with type that much or that quickly!

And they only type on the middle row what words can you type with asdfghjkll;

Resus in films / TV you do not shock a flatline, a flatline means an electrode or two has fallen off.

There is a short period of time between defibbing and seeing the rhythm so you can't do 2 shocks in 2 seconds.

Also operating theatres, surgeons get blood on their gowns, sometimes they wipe their hands on their gowns because the blood is making their hands slick.

That makes me feel better, thanks for starting this OP

Clueless was an homage to Emma, where Knightleys relationship with Emma is bloody creepy (holds her as baby, pretty much helps to raise her). In comparison a young handsome stepbrother who she barely knew at the time is okay I guess Grin

BrieAndChilli · 22/09/2020 07:30

In 24 which is supposed to be real time I don’t recall anyone ever having a nap/popping to the loo/having something to eat. Surely at some point you would be starving/thirsty and be like before we go I need to g tab something to eat?

Also every American show ever - they always wear shoes in the house, even if they have just got up and are spending the day at home. They don’t even wear slippers instead! They sit on the bed with shoes on etc. I don’t know anyone in real life that wears shoes inside unless you have just popped home for 5 minutes.

Marisishidinginmyattic · 22/09/2020 07:35

Children are so small the zombies eat them aaaaaall up.

cheesecrack · 22/09/2020 07:35

Oh yes and horses 'neigh' when running/approaching in films. They rely don't in RL

thelegohooverer · 22/09/2020 07:37

Detectives who are sitting at their desk, get a call about a suspect at a location and arrive there, in their car, in time to catch them, red handed. Miraculous.

I get really irritated when the bad guys shoot rounds and rounds and miss every time and the hero takes them out with just one or two bullets.

Or when people get into a fight and have barely any physical bruising or cuts and absolutely no mental health after effects.

But then, as DH points out, I’d make very dull movies.

NomDePrune · 22/09/2020 07:42

In Sherlock when he guesses the correct password just with a bit of word association. And loads of other similar scenes. What about the capital letter and the numbers?! It's a high security laboratory! It's not going to let you have "maggie" as your pw!!

sashh · 22/09/2020 07:47

Oh and cuts / bruises are sort of symmetrical. Cut over left eye, another cut on right cheek, never bruises on just one side.

Also cut lips that don't bother people when speaking / smiling - have actors never had a cut / bruise?

MandalaYogaTapestry · 22/09/2020 07:50

About the Titatic scene:

Jack did try to get on the board but the board went under water as a result. Two people would be too heavy for it. Jack's face was then shown when he realised that he wouldn't make it. So everything is very clear and logical.

I do need to give a shout out to Medium though, the premise of a psychic working for the police is a bit 'out there' especially as she so often mistakes things; BUT, but, big BUT the only TV family that fills the dishwasher, makes / changes the bed, has a modestly sized house and basically normal life.

CherryCocktails · 22/09/2020 07:54

I suppose technically Cher and josh aren't family because Cher's dad used to married to Josh's mum but they divorced. I assumed josh still hung around because Cher's did mentored him as a lawyer etc

I'm too invested in this!

noideaatallreally · 22/09/2020 08:00

Not just films but on the news too - all state school classes have a maximum of 12 kids in them. In lovely, clean, bright classrooms with modern, well kept furniture. The teacher has access to modern equipment such as an interactive whiteboard. Students don't call out, but put their hand s up to answer questions.

Looks like paradise to me..... how do I get a job in one of these schools?

noideaatallreally · 22/09/2020 08:02

Why do parents keep sending their children back to Hogwarts where their children appear to be in constant mortal danger, there are no health and safety rules in lessons, and teachers are appointed with no cpd checks?

Nikori · 22/09/2020 08:04

Medium is based on a real person. She made a brief and very weird appearance in Real Housewives on Beverly Hills. I have no idea what her real home looks like.
Mooserp · 22/09/2020 08:06

Couples falling back on to a bed (seemingly from a great height) after having sex. What position were they in? Standing on the bed?
And the woman still has her bra on

happilybemused · 22/09/2020 08:13

Armageddon.

Wouldn't it be easier to teach astronauts how to drill rather than teach drillers to be astronauts.

Maybe just me

Oxyiz · 22/09/2020 08:38

But drilling's an art! A science! Grin

(I may have watched that movie one too many times...)

Bouledeneige · 22/09/2020 09:06

I was just re-watching Succession last night and noted that a main character goes to the loo whilst talking to her fiancée and I thought how rarely you see anyone do that on TV or in films.

Also in real life I met a guy on a date who had moved to the US with his Dad whilst the Mum kept his sister on divorce. Weird shit did happen in the 60s and 70s. But of course they didn't pretend the other kid didn't exist.

In films no one ever seems to have to do household tasks like empty the bins, clean or do the ironing. And people are always instantly available at home or on the phone.

Plesky · 22/09/2020 09:47

But then, as DH points out, I’d make very dull movies.

Yes, that's the point, isn't it?. A 90-minute thriller that's supposed to be packed with plot, frights, car chases simply can't have the protagonist taking out the bins, having difficulty finding a parking space outside the deserted warehouse where the baddies are waiting, or stopping to go to the loo on the way to the big shootout -- there isn't time, and it's dull. And TV programme classes are unnaturally small so they don't have to hire as many child extras, who are expensive and difficult because they have to have a certain minimum number of hours of education a day, so they need to shoot around that.

And if TV shows routinely included phonecalls like the ones involving my SIL, who can take a good five minutes (no exaggeration) to say goodbye 'Bye now, byebye, take care, love tell X I to give me a call, give Y a kiss from me etc etc' -- you would have to cut the plot entirely.

I think something a plot point hinges on, like the famous Titanic floating door, or why the family in A Quiet Place don't simply move closer to the waterfall/river whose noise makes them safer from the aliens, or why Marty McFly's parents don't ever recognise him in the present as the guy who originally set them up, or the fact that none of the characters could actually have done the murder in The Big Sleep (as the author and director both admitted) are a bit different.

Or the entirely of The Purge, where you still presumably have the stuff you stole after the 24-hour period (do you get to keep it?) and have to see the neighbours whose parents/dog/budgie you murdered yesterday? Are we supposed to think 'Oh, well, Nigel blew away everyone in the Accounts department yesterday, but heigh ho, business as usual'?

CathyorClaire · 22/09/2020 09:55

No-one ever has to drive round for twenty minutes looking for a parking spot. There's always a spacious one right outside their destination. Even in New York.

CathyorClaire · 22/09/2020 09:58

Prometheus:

Why go poking a snaky faced alien with a stick? They'd have had the chance to see even more SF and horror films than we have and all of us know that something like that could only end badly.
