Looking for a new perfume

Can anyone recommend a perfume, please? Of course I will go and sample some in the shop but I'd like a short-list otherwise too many samples will all end up smelling the same!

In my life I've worn Sunflowers by Elizabeth Arden; Noa by Cacharel; L'eau d'Issey and Clinique Happy. I've gone right off L'eau d'Issey for some reason.

I love Happy but I'm maybe looking for something a bit more 'sophisticated'...? I definitely lean towards fruity and fresh scents.

Have you seen the Fragrantica website www.fragrantica.com/search/

People review all different perfumes, it gives you ratings on how much people like it. A break down of what the manufacturer says it smells like (what top notes etc) and what the reviewers say it actually smells like. I found it really interesting. Plus if you know you like a perfume you can see what "notes" it has and look for others similar.

Dior joy is a lovely light fruity perfume

AlaskaBird · 20/09/2020 16:12

I haven't looked a Fragantia - thanks. I've tried a few other 'perfume finders', though.
I now have a list and I'm looking forward to doing some sniffing! Smile

Gabrielle Chanel. Bloody lovey. People have stopped me in the street and asked what is

Will0wtree · 20/09/2020 17:47

Oh, and personally I love Aura by Mugler. I think it smells complex and green like a deep forest.

Although my son says it smells like a witch's hut set in a swamp...

AlaskaBird · 20/09/2020 18:15

Have added 'Gabrielle' to my sniff-list.

A witch's hut - I'll have to have a sniff of that, too Grin

Marc Jacobs perfumes are lovely. I can't narrow it down to a favourite!

Whereland · 20/09/2020 19:17

Prada eau d'iris is the most divine perfume ever

TeaLibrary · 20/09/2020 19:40

Nina Ricci L'Air Du Temps. Its my favourite perfume. I like Chanel 5 and Armani Beverly Hills as well.

TapingTheTop40 · 20/09/2020 19:49

Dior J’adore
Perfume only

I don’t see the point in Eau de Toilet as the smell is gone so quickly

expatinspain · 20/09/2020 19:52

Jean Paul Gautier Classique.

Rollergirl11 · 20/09/2020 20:00

Just to let you know OP, shops are not allowed tester bottles at the moment due to Covid. So unfortunately you won’t be able to do any sniffing.

Rebelwithallthecause · 20/09/2020 20:01

I like Tom Ford neroli and lots of the jo malone scents

All very fresh

Chocolatecake12 · 20/09/2020 20:02

As pp said Marc Jacobs perfumes are all lovely, my fave is dot.
Or jimmy Choo blossom

itwilldropoff · 20/09/2020 21:14

Armani Si is quite fruity.

Miracle by Lancome is similar to happy but a bit deeper if that makes sense.

Lovely by SJP is a nice every day perfume that’s always cheap and smells quite fresh

Rollergirl11 Is right, there’s no testers on display but the staff should be able to spray for you. They might get pissed off if you’re asking to try loads as they’ll have to wipe them all down after they’ve handled them but to be honest you probably will only want to try a few at a time otherwise you’ll be overwhelmed. Try them on cards first and then any that take your fancy try on your skin to wear for a little while.
