My cat’s not coming back is he?

I’ve one cat, quite senior ish at age 10 or 11 . He disappeared on Monday night, put him out as usual (he’s a very outdoor cat) . He’s not been back since . He’s never done this before . He’s normally in perfect health, he’s very affectionate, he’s athletic and happy to clamber all over the place . He’s always, always come back in the evenings and then again in the early mornings .

I’m devastated . Posted on FB groups, walked miles calling for him, searched the roads and asked neighbours . Rang local vet surgeries. Left food out for him, sat up at night waiting . There’s no sign of him at all, it’s as if he’s just vanished .

We back onto a massive building site with lorries all day long and whilst he’s normally fine and seems sensible enough I can’t bear to think that he’s probably been knocked down . I’ve lost another cat that way and don’t want to imagine that it’s happened again .

How long do you keep searching and waiting? I suppose after a few weeks you have to give up don’t you? His bed is still waiting on him and I’ve two boxes of his favourite food ☹️

Mine turned up after 11 months - a month after I had given in and adopted a new kitten, they still hate each other! Don't give up hope, it is so awful though, not knowing, I really hope it comes wandering home (blaming you) very soon

My friend's cat, who she'd only had for less than a week, escaped. (Rehomed from elderly person's house, going into care).

Gone.

Turned up at a vet's 7 weeks later, sleek and unharmed.

Has remained home, with them, ever since.

I found my cat after 3 weeks searching.... Hed moved into a larger, posher house and was sleeping on a 4 poster bed! Looked like he had moved up in the world. Good luck.

He could still come back. Have you tried hanging some of his or your bedding on the line? Going out very early or late and only calling on your way home so he could follow? Look high and low rather than eye level. You must be worried sick. I hope he is home very soon

Any news, op?

@catnoir1

My friends cat disappeared for months. Turned out he had decided to move into another house nearby. Her husband saw him when he was heading to work, scooped him up and took him home.

Never give up hope.

How did your friend's husband know the cat was heading to work? Was he carrying a little briefcase?

I got mine back after 4 weeks. Laminated posters lots of them.

🙏 I really hope you get him back OP.

My 10 year old largely indoor cat got out and disappeared last summer. I drove myself mad wandering the streets and park near us late at night calling for him for a few weeks and then gave up as I was upsetting myself doing it day after day. 9 weeks later I was looking out of the kitchen window and he was sitting on the flat roof opposite. I went and fetched him and he's never tried to wander again (despite access to if he wanted to).

Don't give up hope OP x
