Can I ask
Do any of you ladies suffer with a bad neck ?
Especially the occipital area? (Top of the neck before head) as this as bothered me also and I don’t know if it’s connected to
Tmj/clenching ?

Sparklyring · 30/09/2020 16:04

@granadagirl I do!! Its definitely connected. I found a great video on youtube of exercises which have really helped me.

I’ve heard that Botox for TMJ causes bone loss.

Sparklyring · 30/09/2020 17:37

@justanotherneighinparadise Where did you hear this?

If you google TMJ, Botox and bone loss there are lots of hits about it.

@justanotherneighinparadise

Thank you I will do. I've been looking into it but hadnt come across bone loss, hadnt specifically looked for it.

I think I was researching and it just scared me too much to consider it.

What’s helped with my clenching is a purpose made mouth guard and giving up caffeine, sugar and basically overhauling my diet so it’s super low carb. This seems to have helped my anxiety and I just give less of a duck about life and so I’m not taking my stress to bed with me.

*fuck

So having reading this, I emailed a guy who was a dentist for 18 years
But as know gone into cosmetic facial Botox/fillers.

I was excited as I thought great, down the road and best of both dental experience and Botox.

Just got email back 😞 he said
Your quite right in that Botox can be used for clenching as well however this is only typically used for those patients that have what is called massater hypertrophy or enlarged massater, which often will look quite bulky or wide. It also would not be offered in general practice unless someone has specialist experience.

I’m gutted, as I thought no more aching, pain.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 05/10/2020 19:33

I had several courses of it. Did nothing - sorry. The best treatment for me was hypnotherapy. It prevented me clenching for quite a while but I need to go back for more sessions.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 05/10/2020 19:33

Oh and avoiding alcohol is also something which helps too.

catnoir1 · 05/10/2020 19:39

I'm currently looking at this as I've broken my tooth from grinding them so much.
