Does nicotine gum affect conception?

Hey! So my sister has been trying for her second baby for over a year now. She is 36 and didn't have any trouble conceiving the first. She hasn't been smoking for about 7 years but occasionally vapes. The difference is between trying for her first and her second is that she used nicotine gum daily now and openly admits she's addicted to it. I've been reading up on it and can't see any evidence associated with nicotine gum, it's more the other chemicals in smoking but then I have read somewhere that some places in America don't offer ivf if mother is on nicotine products including gum. She's asked the pharmacist but was advised that there is nothing that states it effects conception but that's not to say it doesn't. So suggested weaning down from 4mg to 2mg and then totally off it. So she's started doing this.

What your guys thoughts? Are there any studies out there 🤔

No, it doesn't, not if you are at least 'average' fertility.

I was addicted to nicotine gum. I'd been told years before that I needed to have another baby before the age of 36, due to PCOS, by my gynaecologist, and thay I was probably sub-fertile. I was single, so it was academic.

I met DH when I was 39.5 (still addicted to the gum), and found out I was pregnant the day before our wedding, 6 weeks later.

I stopped the gum when breastfeeding, but resumed after, and fell pregnant at the age of 41.

There may be numerous studies saying opposite, but it is far safer than smoking.
