Evening tea suggestions for kids

Last year DS was in after school club most days and had soup, hot dogs, sandwiches etc. there so we didn't do evening meals.at home. With flexible working my two DS come straight home from school now. They have school dinners, and I think portion sizes are decent, so I'm struggling with what to give them for tea (ages 4 and 7).

What do you all give your kids for tea in the evening?

Savoury cobbler with cheesy feet. Bottom is meat or vegetarian stew/mince/whatever you prefer. The top is cobbler topping with added cheese and cut out with a foot shaped cutter. It's suitably gross sounding to appeal to kids but it's a proper dinner and you can serve additional veg or some fruit after too if you like.

OP I know what you mean about being stuck in a rut.

I have 3 kids, 2 have packed lunches and 1 has school lunches. I keep the menu on the fridge and try not to cook the same or similar for dinner!

One thing my kids love is turkey/chicken meatballs. You can have them with anything - rice, pasta, potatoes, or in a wrap or pitta.

-1 pack of lean Turkey or chicken mince
-115g grated cheese
-115g breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg
  • mixed herbs

Mix together in a bowl and divide into 16 balls. Chill in the fridge.

I then roast in the oven for 20ish minutes.

Sometimes I make homemade pancakes (v easy with jamie olivers method) and this is their favourite

Soup and brown bread

Beans on toast

I often cook roast chicken or similar so just a small portion of dinner

Crusty bread and ham

Noodles
