What are WAGs and ADs?

I have been on mumsnet for a long time but I have never understood the WAG and AD threads! In my world, a WAG is a wife or a girlfriend of a footballer and ADs are antidepressants but I'm guessing this is not the case here! Can anyone explain the background and meaning? Smile

No replies! Clearly I'm not allowed to know the secret. Is it like the Masons?! Grin

I'd also like to know!

Word Association Games (saying one word and finding another word that links to it but is different) and Anti Dementors (those trying to live a normal life during Covid and not getting caught up in the hysteria) I believe are what WAG & AD stand for.

Nicked from partway through the current AD thread:

ADs are anti dementors.

Not that we don't take the virus seriously but that we don't believe that it will kill anyone who breaks 'the roolz'. And certainly not making up our own rules and then judging others for not following our ever more draconian measures

We do believe that we can find humour in almost any situation, that there will be a time post covid and we don't have to accept that the 'new normal' is in any way normal.

We have different views and we accept that. No name calling for someone that disagrees with you. And no putting others down for seeing things differently. Plenty of support for those ground down by or worrying about how things are. Because one thing is bad it doesn't mean we can't be upset by or need sympathy for lesser things

We are intelligent enough to do our own risk assessments (which also includes thing about others that we may come into contact with) and don't accept that anyone who views it differently has any right to tell us what to do.

We also chat shit about anything and everything

It came about from an AIBU about people who have to suck the joy out of everything, and the word Dementor (from Harry Potter) got mentioned and stuck. It was back around April when MN was particularly crazy and you weren't allowed to worry about anything non-Covid, and people were being accused of MURDER by sitting on benches and eating crisps, buying unnecessary milk or dropping brownies off on a doorstep.

It was a rare oasis of balanced, polite discussion and support at a point when that was particularly absent. The chat is critical of the world following data and research, but largely compliant in a sensible risk assessed way and we CBA with the palaver of going to an illegal rave anyway. We're more phallic veg and book club kinda ladies Wink
