Let's talk dash cams!

Due to local crash for cash I've realised I need to get a dash cam. I've been inundated with advice and am now completely lost! Can anyone advise on good models?

Key points are (I'm told): gps, single unit with front and rear camera, and motion sensor. And I'm adding in cheap!

I won't be able to read this until tomorrow so please don't think I'm ignoring any questions. And thank you a LOT.

A single unit will record what's going on the front of your car and mainly the inside of your car (great for taxis) not what's happening behind your car. You really need a separate rear camera for that.

Image quality is important (you need to-be able to read registration plates) and as usual 'quality' and 'cheap' rarely go together.

I had a cheap one (£30ish) and it didn't always save the recording which made it pretty pointless really. So I bought a more expensive 'Nextbase' one. (£120+)

There is a chap called 'techmoan' on YouTube who reviews technical stuff, including dashcams, you could trying looking at what he says.

Joining in the bump brigade as this is on my to-do list to sort out for my own car. I’ve only got as far as the Halfords website so far which seemed to be £499 for front and rear but will research further!

I have a Nextbase Duo which seems to capture rear OK. It's a single unit.

That's interesting, I have a nextbase that can take a rear camera plugged in on the side but I was led to believe it was had restrictive rear view.. So ignore my first post - i shall investigate further...

Quality seems good, even though my rear window is dark. It records sound inside the car (optional) so it hears all the music you play and every time you swear at another motorist.

You can have it connected before (i.e. always on) or after the ignition, but if before then you need another widget to stop the battery running down, which wasn't expensive.
