Can I ask, what the kick up the bum you got to loose weight?

I looked at my feet today in sandals. Swollen feet and ankles. Last years loose size up trousers now digging in and restrictive. Face looks round on zoom meeting no matter the angle.
It's time to loose weight!! I just want this burst of realisation and motivation to last, as it hasn't for at least 18 months now.
What was your 'moment' that began your weight loss journey!! Please share, I'm in need of some inspirational stories

It was buying a size 14 skirt and realising it was too small. Lockdown was so stressful and I wasn't going anywhere so I just ate and drunk what I liked. Paying for it now!

NancyBotwinBloom · 17/09/2020 20:50

A couple of weeks ago I was in the shower and we have one of those really shiny plug coverings. It's like a mirror.

I looked down and thought my boobs look Great.

I looked again admiring them and it was my fucking stomach! It looked like two boobs.

Shock

Monday the diet starts and the walking.
I'm gutted about it but I'm also realistic.

It's going to take some time and I'm not young where it will snap back after a week of cutting down. Confused

Looking at the Dawn French clothing line when I needed an outfit for a party.

High BP reading at the GP age 46 and thinking about stroke, heart attacks, diabetes, disability and death basically.

Can't eliminate the risk, but I can reduce it. Lost 2.5 stone, BP normal.

@NancyBotwinBloom
Grin
Lockdown snack abandon with Netflix sadly now means none of my clothes fit anymore except the baggy ones.
I’m also old, so I know I’m in for the long haul.

NancyBotwinBloom · 17/09/2020 22:31

Hahha I've been the same. Mini cheddars with cheese and truffle honey

Chocolate

Chips with cheese

I've been a pure glutton.

I'm getting my arse in gear.

I'm taking the clothes off my exercise bike after this weekend.

AdelaidePlace · 17/09/2020 22:31

Not me, but my DP - listening to the risk factors which make the chances of recovering from COVID so much less likely. ECV, obese, male, over 50. He wants to improve his chances of surviving, so serious stuff.

He's lost nearly 3 stone so far.

Sk1nnyB1tch · 17/09/2020 22:46

Realising there were hardly any photos of me from my 20's when friends tried to do a "This is your life" style scrapbook as a present for my 30th Birthday. (I am the youngest in the friendship group and we had done it for everyone else)
I had avoided being in photos because I thought I was so fat, when I was a size 10-12 until the year I turned 30 when I rose to a 14 and wished I was a 12 again!
I just wanted to not care about how I looked, not be slim and gorgeous but be happy and feel "normal".
I am a size 16 now due to health issues but I will start again next week and in the meantime I smile for the camera because I don't ever want to make myself invisible again.

Blueuggboots · 17/09/2020 22:55

A couple of photos where I look massive.....
I've lost 2.5 stone so far, almost in my "happy stone" area now..... feel so much better.

annonymousse · 17/09/2020 23:00

Seeing myself in a full length mirror, naked! Confused over 20kg down and so much better for it Grin

user1463178569 · 17/09/2020 23:27

Saw my reflection in the tv (turned off, it looks like a dull mirror) and I look like a pregnant duck with bulging belly and massive ass.

I'm letting this cold do one and then starting couch to 5k that I installed on my phone 3 weeks ago and not started yet Blush.

monkeyonthetable · 17/09/2020 23:33

Honestly? To my shame it was watching my teenage DS do it systematically over lockdown. He just set his mind to losing some extra pounds and was really sensible about it. No 'diet'. He just halved his portions, cut back on sugar, bread and snacks and did 10k steps a day. Within 2 months he'd lost a stone. So I copied him. Slower going for me. But still 10lb in 3 months without actually dieting is really good going. I'm happy for it to come off slowly. By Christmas I should have lost a stone and a half and within a year I should be my target weight, all without 'going on a diet', fasting or restricting certain foods.

Bluesheep8 · 18/09/2020 07:26

Mine was my mum bravely and gently telling me that I needed to do something about my weight.
Closely followed by a diagnosis of MS which made me think that it would be easier to keep moving or it'd be physically easier for people to help me if I was lighter.
That was 21 years ago and apart from a bit of weight creeping on due to age (I'm told) I have kept that 5 stone off.

Mrslafayette · 18/09/2020 07:34

I need to do this. I've gained a stone this year. 5ft 1 and almost 11stone. What do you eat in a typical day?

Toomanycats99 · 18/09/2020 07:42

I separated from my husband and divorce was final end of last year. That put me in a better headspace - before I just felt stuck in a draining rut. Made decisions on how to improve work prospects as well.

I also was fed up of wearing jeans and t shirts and never feeling good about myself.

I am 48 this year and just felt it was now or never. I am just coming up to 2 stone weight loss since end of June on a low carb diet and I don't know how my my mindset about food has just changed. I am not craving biscuits or sweet stuff all the time have have virtually cut out all snacking. I like that on this plan I can have a relaxed day at the weekend but get straight back on it.

wowfudge · 18/09/2020 07:43

Seeing photos of myself and realising I had lost any attractiveness I had - I didn't recognise myself. I've got a big event coming up, well maybe next year or the year after now due to the pandemic, and ai decided at Christmas that I couldn't do anything about being middle aged, but I could do something about being fat. Joined a gym in January and have lost over a stone and a half, really toned up and added muscle. I feel, and look, so much better. I'm no longer hiding in shapeless clothes.

LongBlobson · 18/09/2020 07:44

Seeing a photo of myself where a previously loose top was stretched across my stomach, and I had a big double chin.

I lost a load of weight a couple of years ago, and felt great, but then had a long illness, wasn't able to exercise and lost all willpower with regards to food. Since then it had been creeping back on, but I really didn't know how much until I saw that photo.

BrowncoatWaffles · 18/09/2020 08:27

My sister took a photo of me and DD sat down together and I looked like Jabba the Hutt. Almost triangular, a little head and then just a wide wide body.

I cried and then couldn’t stop thinking about it. Bought a Fitbit to get my steps in, downloaded an app to do fat burning yoga and downloaded My Fitness Pal. Now six and a half stone down in three years. It’s taken a long time (and in lockdown I’ve basically been up and down 7lbs depending on which point of the comfort eating cycle I've been at) but it’s been sustainable and my life has changed immeasurably.

DH and I were 19 and 17 stone respectively when we started (it encouraged him to lose weight too as we meal planned together) and bearing in mind the plethora of underlying health conditions we have I am so thankful we started before The Year Of The Apocalypse.

MrsT1405 · 18/09/2020 08:28

I eat when I'm stressed and put on 20kg over lovkdown. I was very overweight before that with bad back and knees. It was peeing myself regularly that was the final straw. I've been doing the fast 800. Its really tough. Especially the no alcohol. I'm 8 kgs down in 17 days...hoping to reverse my type 2 diabetes as well. And I've stopped peeing my pants mostly.,

Wotrewelookinat · 18/09/2020 08:29

Turning 50, realised I was putting on weight year after year, looked at photos, have teens DDs who are athletic and full of energy and I felt crap and old before my time.

Poulter · 18/09/2020 08:34

Being told I was pre-diabetic. Being tired all the time. Knowing I'd have to get a whole new wardrobe if I went up a size and all the clothes that would fit me in that size looking frumpy on me.

PurrBox · 18/09/2020 08:36

I found out my husband had been having an affair and I couldn't eat for months- just felt sick. I lost about 20 lbs, I think. My body does look better, but it hasn't really made me feel better inside.

whatsoccuringnow · 18/09/2020 08:38

It's great to read these and not feel alone! I'm 5ft and almost 11st too. I have 2 wardrobes of nice clothes that don't fit.

I am cutting out alcohol (big deal for me- alot of my calories come from wine and beers and snacking alongside them). I will stop eating massive portions. I will stop getting takeaways out of laziness. I will clock up 10,000 steps a day whether from being on the go or going walking.
