Did anyone listen to Jeremy Vine talking about being a parent of a young person who has fallen in love for the first time?
The women on there were saying that it felt like a bereavement because their sons (it was all sons in this case) had transferred their affections from them to their new girlfriend.
Really?!!!
These women need to learn to less possessive about their children. It's no wonder that there are so many MIL/DIL problems.
One woman rang in and said that she made the mistake of thinking that no-one was good enough for her children (sadly, my SIL does the same).
Do these women only live their lives through their children? Do they not care about their children's happiness? Are these the women who sob all summer at the thought of their little darlings daring to leave home to go to university?
I love my daughter, but at 20 she has her own life to lead, and I would never guilt trip her into putting me first.
