Tell me why I should give up diet coke?

I drink too much of the stuff. Currently going cold turkey and I keep falling asleep and having headaches.
Does it get better? Replacing with lovely squashes and trying to remind myself that I will be better off physically and mentally but this is torturous!

@RobertTheBruce No it doesn't. I currently have gestational diabetes and check my blood sugar 7 times a day. There is no glucose spike or change in insulin resistance as a result of drinking sugar free drinks. They aren't good for you, I know, but that's simply not true

Settleandcalm · 17/09/2020 11:55

The phosphoric acid leeches from your bones and teeth, increasing dental issues and the likelihood of osteoporosis.

The aspartame’s have been linked to cancer.

It costs more than water.

It drives a need for a sugar hit after drinking therefore increasing the likelihood of obesity.

^^. All from nutritionists and scientists of food I work with on a daily basis

Having said that I Still drink the fucking stuff all day everyday so good luck!!

I once met someone in their 30s in acute liver failure (non alcoholic fatty liver) and she was maybe in the slightly overweight category but not obese, and I asked her if they knew what caused it and she said no but she said she had drank nothing but coke zero for 10 years. Literally nothing else. Not even water. She needed a transplant that week else she was going to die, not sure whether she got it or not in the end! Not sure if it was the coke zero that did it but it was the only thing she could think of 😬

It's horrible give me a proper Coke any day.

RobertTheBruce · 17/09/2020 12:08

Yes it does. You've been conned. Read the book......The Obesity Code by Jason Fung. All bullshit put out by food manufacturers is exactly that, they're killing us with hidden salt, sugar and additives. Why do you think any of these companies are telling you the truth? They're responsible for the huge increase in obesity and diabetes. Read the book, it exposes all these lies and provides PROOF. Proof and evidence not opinions.

Sweeteners make me sooo hungry. Lost 7 stones and gave up the Diet Coke habit. So much easier to eat less. Tried one last year and I wanted to snack all afternoon.

Hedgehog44 · 17/09/2020 12:11

Never take away my Diet Coke!!!!!

Ginfordinner · 17/09/2020 12:18

It tastes disgusting. Just drink grown up drinks instead of sweet, fizzy drinks.

KenDodd · 17/09/2020 12:22

It cost money and is bad for the environment.

Still love it though!

I tried this but HR got all uppity about the JD fumes.

SheWranglesRugRats · 17/09/2020 12:52

Coca Cola plants drain groundwater and cause drought in India and making cans is not an environmentally sound process.

ZarasHouse · 17/09/2020 12:53

What is a grown up drink? San Pellegrino mixed with Prozac? I'd rather have a Diet Coke pick me up Wink

fluffiphlox · 17/09/2020 12:56

Carbonated drinks are terrible for women in particular. They have an effect on the skeleton. Someone will be along to explain better than I can.

lazylinguist · 17/09/2020 13:01

What is a grown up drink?

Water, tea or (decaf) coffee for me. Drinks shouldn't taste like a dessert imo.

RobertTheBruce · 17/09/2020 14:10

As I mentioned elsewhere, the book The Obesity Code by Jason Fung explains the truth about all these foods and drinks that are supposedly low sugar etc. Many of them are still very bad for us! These money grabbing food companies have created a population of obesity with their lies and misleading garbage. Take a good look at how much sugar is in a tin of baked beans for example, something you wouldn't really think would have sugar in it at all. It's horrendous.

I've heard these drinks referred to as "osteoporosis in a can".
TracyBeakerSoYeah · 17/09/2020 20:35

Diet or Sugar free fizzy drink or squash is disgusting.
Tastes yuk & doesn't quench my thirst.
They also give me headaches & nausea.
Does the same to my DD & DM.
We must be sensitive to the aspartame.
I drink the regular stuff & very diluted normal squash or fruit juice every so often. I mainly drink water or tea/coffee & alcohol 😂
