M&S food quality on Ocado

I was excited about the M&S change. I really was. Previously when using ocado I defaulted to Waitrose for vegetables and basics like tinned pulses. I thought the M&S produce would be similar quality, but everything I've had so far has been rubbish, worse than Ocado own brand.

Oranges - mealy and dry
Frozen blueberries - chewy and gritty
Borlotti beans - hard

I have had some items that haven't been noticeably horrible, but I was really surprised at the quality of these items.

What has everyone else's experience been like?

Mines been excellent, I love the new range, the food is great. Not bought those items though.

I've stopped using Ocado, I just go directly to Waitrose.

The list of out of stock items on Ocado was just ridiculous. Practically every search brought up around four pages of choices, with all but the first 3 items marked not in stock Confused
Sod that.

I've got no complaints re: quality. I miss some of the Waitrose prepared foods which were in the 3 for £10 offer. There's very little that isn't breaded chicken now.

I've fed this back to Ocado as they sent me a survey to complete asking about the change to M&S.

No complaints about M&S food quality yet.
Their satsumas are yummy - Coop ones are going in the bin by comparison.
I like their prepped salad bags although they are expensive and i am annoyed I can't get the 'grown underground' micro herbs any more as they were really lovely.
Soft fruits has been excellent - the raspberries are very tasty although coming to an end now.

The cheese selection needs to improve though. It's a bit limited. I haven't had much problem with OOS - other than the really tasty Cohens pitta bread which has spoilt me for anything else. But not the end of the world to have it subbed.

I will monitor the situation as I haven't eaten everything I ordered yet. In their defence, the kale and aubergines I had were fine. Maybe it was just a bad introduction with these items, though I was surprised about the oranges!

To be fair that’s not true, but there is a lot of breaded chicken. We had the lemon and Parmesan one last night and it was lovely to be honest.

Housewife2010 · 16/09/2020 15:55

There's far more than breaded chicken in that offer. We like having M&S smoked salmon for one of the choices. They still have the whole chicken, good quality burgers and sea bass that we always ordered.

I’ve had a couple of deliveries with the M&S stuff and have found it to be really good quality so far, especially the veg. (And I was also a fan of the Waitrose stuff).
I do also like Ocado for the other brands it sells, I find there’s a really good range, so although there are a couple of Waitrose items that I miss, I am still happy to use Ocado.

I've always chosen M&S fruit over Waitrose so I really love the change.

The chicken tenders are really good too.

Bluntness100 · 16/09/2020 17:40

Yes the burgers are good quality, they do the Aberdeen Angus ones, and I have a garlic and herb spatchcocked chicken in the fridge which haven’t cooked yet, but it looks good.

NibbleQueen · 16/09/2020 19:41

I cut into another one of the oranges and this one was was really juicy! Beginning to think maybe I've been unlucky, I want to like it so much! Also I looked today and there's a better selection of fish than before - I saw John Dory, halibut, hake, so that's a bit more inspiring than the previous selection.

Agreed I like the selection of brands at ocado too, I will probably continue to use for most things, but good veg is essential

I haven't noticed - our local Waitrose is awful - their fruit and veg is old and tastes of nothing - so I hope it's a blip.
