Every time there is a thread about 80's toys. Almost every one wanted a Mr Frosty, (including me.) just wondering what was it about it that made it so longed for?!

OP posts:
LoseLooseLucy · 16/09/2020 11:36

They looked so good on the advert, and the ice slush looked very tasty (was actually shit in reality though).

gower4 · 16/09/2020 12:17

I had one! It was shit.

TheQueef · 16/09/2020 12:18

You needed to be He-man to turn the bastard Angry
I waited years for my cousin to get one and it broke Boxing day.

Oh my god yeah! You couldn't crush the ice with it at all. I ending up putting dry roasted peanuts in mine and jamming the whole thing Confused

Spied · 16/09/2020 13:52

I had Mr.Frosty and his little penguin friend.
Mine worked perfectly. I loved it and it lasted years.
I love looking back at the photos of me sat at the table with him in my Mr. Frosty hatGrin

You either wanted it and never got it (or got over wanting it) or got it and were not impressedGrin

purpledagger · 16/09/2020 14:06

@pinkcattydude

You either wanted it and never got it (or got over wanting it) or got it and were not impressedGrin
Or the third option is that you end up with a fake knock off. A relative was given something like a Mr Freeze, which was a knock off version.
Witchend · 16/09/2020 14:15

It's also that you had the idea of constant ice lollies. To us with no freezer, no pocketmoney to buy ice lollies it sounded fantastic.
We had ice cream on our birthdays only as a general rule.

Plussizejumpsuit · 16/09/2020 14:16

I had one and it was shit. You had to fucking hand grind ice! How many kids can do that?!

PatsyPet · 16/09/2020 14:17

The telly ad made it look so cool. A little girl churning out crushed ice - delicious.

My BFF got one. It was shit. Impossible to grate the ice. I still remember the disappointment Sad

abracadabra77 · 16/09/2020 14:36

My daughter has one, only used once now lying in a cupboard waiting to be sent on its way 😄

AlCalavicci · 16/09/2020 14:39

I too got one and was disappointed, so much brute force was needed to crush ice cubes you risked doing yourself a mischief!
It was ok for crushing them really long 'Mr Frezze' type ice pops but you could do that by bashing them on the wall on the way home from the sweet shop

TheQueef · 16/09/2020 17:00

I was Too Old For Toys (further events beg to differ) so it took a lot of manoeuvring on my part to get one. Even made ice, special.
All I got was a massive, extended bollocking from ALL the family and 50ml of piss warm 'Frosty'
Angry

fistchinthink · 16/09/2020 17:03

Ah Mr Frosty ... the one who got away!

toomanyplants · 16/09/2020 17:10

Always wanted one. Mum said it was "plastic shite"
As an adult I'm pretty obsessed with slush puppie, I'm convinced it's because I never got a mr frosty.

DirtyTicket · 16/09/2020 17:14

I had one. It was utter shite. His hat must've been longer than it was supposed to be because after you'd ground the ice (which was no mean feat), the grater then grated the hat so I'd end up with plastic in my sickly drink.

razey · 16/09/2020 19:26

It was the advert ! Everyone wanted one !
The little shovel scrapping out the slushy ice

FredaFox · 16/09/2020 19:29

I still remind my mum each Christmas I wasn’t allowed a mr frosty 😂
I wasn’t allowed operation either

Suzi888 · 16/09/2020 19:32

I had one and I loved it! I still love a slush puppieGrin

BlueThursday · 16/09/2020 19:33

Still know the words to this day!

AlCalavicci · 16/09/2020 19:48

We need to find them kids in the advert and ask them what the magic trick was to get crushed ice so easily ,

what ? editing the advert you say ? noooo they wouldn't do that would they Hmm ?? and device us poor innocent kids Shock ! shame on them ! Sad
