Fight after school- who should deal with it?

Just after some opinions from you lovely mumsnetters.

At around 4pm yesterday, there was a fight between four primary aged children. It's unclear whether they'd been home already, but school finishes at 3.15 and they all live locally.

Would you expect the school to deal with the fight?

no the parents should.

Not sure about primary but our secondary school get involved if the dc are still wearing their uniforms..

Crazycrazylady · 16/09/2020 11:37

I'd expect parents to deal with it once they had left school grounds.

Thanks for your responses :) I agree with you all, however the parents involved all think the school should be setting punishments...

Just wanted to get a bit of a reality check here about it! :)

age of children?

If they had been collected by parents, then definitely the parents not the school.
If allowed to walk home, then probably still the parents, but they should not be trusted to walk home in future.
School should be 'made aware' though in case it impacts on school time.

JanetandJohn500 · 16/09/2020 13:04

The schools only have the right to get involved if the pupils were bringing the school 'into disrepute'. This can include if they were wearing the uniform or if they picked a fight with a pupil from another school specifically because they were from another school.
If that is the case, the school should implement their behaviour policy. Otherwise, it's up to the parents.

DrDreReturns · 16/09/2020 13:06

It's the parents responsibility.

Iggly · 16/09/2020 13:08

Er if my child was fighting in school I would still deal with it at home!

This probably gives you insight as to why these children ended up in a fight, as they shirk responsibility

If they were in uniform, thus representing the school, then certainly DC's school would be on them like a tonne of bricks.

Regardless of whether they were in or out of uniform, parents should be dealing with the issue at home. If my DC were fighting with other pupils I'd be involving school whether or not they were aware, so we could take a two pronged approach.
