Here it is. A thread for those of us find ourselves awake for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. It might be stress, grief, illness, menopause or just the way you are.

A place to chat and get to know one another and share tips (no mention of camomile tea or hot baths though).

See you all in about 5 hours...

Hello everyone.

I've been awake for a couple of hours. I still have hope of going back to sleep for an hour...

What has everyone been up to?

I had a very productive day and was asleep in no time. I'm going to try and get some exercise tomorrow and to eat healthy and light food.

Hope that lots of you are getting your z's in right now.

I drank wine tonight and it always wakes me up. That's such a shame because I love wine. Grin

redlockscelt · 21/09/2020 03:05

I'm awake, I went to bed early feeling unwell and now can't sleep.

Itsatoughgig · 21/09/2020 04:15

Feeling under the weather and in pain so still awake.

userxx · 21/09/2020 06:16

@lightlypoached Me too. Years ago when my wine consumption was let's say a fair bit higher, I'd wake up with a racing heart. Put me right off!!!

Canklesforankles · 21/09/2020 08:48

Red wine is particularly bad for my sleep.
Lately any alcohol makes my nighttime hot flushes worse Angry

Thack · 22/09/2020 03:53

Morning folks! I've been trying not to post too much but wanted to check in. How is everyone?

Frownette · 22/09/2020 04:21

@Thack how are you? What's keeping you up?

Had some family drama earlier which kept me on edge but might try to soon go downstairs and see if I can manage tuna spaghetti! (Lurgy whatever, don't think COVID. I'm bringing back up everything I try to eat at present.).

Goldistheanswer · 22/09/2020 04:21

I’ve been awake all night. Mind racing and just can’t settle. Now I’ve come downstairs to see if some MN will help. Hi to everyone who are awake.

Goldistheanswer · 22/09/2020 04:22

That sounds horrible Frownette I hope you start feeling better soon.

StarlightLady · 22/09/2020 04:35

I made it til 4:00 am today and that appears to be my lot.

Frownette · 22/09/2020 04:39

@Goldistheanswer

That sounds horrible Frownette I hope you start feeling better soon.
What's on your mind? I'm going downstairs now to attempt to eat but think phone is charged enough to check MN
Thack · 22/09/2020 04:52

My stomach is a bit uncomfortable tonight, it's digestive /long standing. I think certain foods affect me but stress is a factor for sure.
I have an audit in work this week and it's going to be baaad. I'm a bit peed off so have been struggling to concentrate and find the will to knuckle down. It'll be OK, just hard work and a crap day!
I'm also paranoid that I'm starting to show (13 weeks, FTM) and I want to put off telling work for at least another week. It's again not really a problem but my mind is chewing it over.

First world problems that the night magnifies!
Thanks for asking @Frownette I hope you're OK?
Gonna try for a little sleep now-sorry to winge and leave. I'll prob be back in half an hour!!

Frownette · 22/09/2020 05:18

@Thack yay, I think I've managed to keep something down! Unless I go like the exorcist in a second...

Oh 13 weeks, that's really exciting :) Just breathe deeply before the audit and think I am the mistress of all I survey. It'll be fine!

Goldistheanswer · 22/09/2020 06:03

I’m so pleased Frownette that you’ve managed to eat something, hopefully you’ve turned a corner.
My mind is racing about lots of things, my health, the kids, my elderly mum, Covid, etc. I bet I start to feel sleepy just as it’s time to wake everyone!

Frownette · 22/09/2020 06:08

@Goldistheanswer that's always the way isn't it, if you have a bad night then you feel sleepy just as it's time to get up and go.

I guess shower, cup of tea/coffee, strong alarm sweetheart

Thack · 23/09/2020 03:55

Morning folks. Hope you're all well?

I've logged into my work laptop the past two nights. This insomnia is turning me into a zombie in the day, so I'm now more productive at 3am than 3pm. Shame I'm not WFH. My audit is tomorrow - this habit will not continue!

I am so jealous of you having strong coffees! Please take a deep sniff of the aroma for me and enjoy it Brew

MostlyAmbridgeandcoffee · 23/09/2020 04:35

I’m up with my 2 week old so getting used to the wee hours again ( second child and former on off insomniac anyway !). Don’t help myself as fund myself still scrolling or mind wide awake once baby has gone to sleep!!

EdnaMole · 23/09/2020 04:51

Wide awake here and list-making.
Starting new full time teaching role on Mon 5th after 12 years of part time. Mind is racing and won’t let me rest. Keep wondering if schools will be shut before too long...and how I’m going to keep the pace up until Christmas..teaching is tough in these “turbulent times” and you can’t even have a giggle with your colleagues in the staffroom any more as we can’t use it! Will be with Y1 and they are a lovely bunch but I’m feeling pretty anxious. Been up for an hour writing stuff down with a cup of tea..

WinWinnieTheWay · 24/09/2020 04:48

Morning, wide awake and feeling stressed about getting back to sleep. I am tired, but my mind is not relaxing.

Hope that you're all in a restful slumber.

crankysaurus · 24/09/2020 04:55

Morning fellow insomniacs, I need a pee and my mind has decided now is a good moment to think about everything I don't want to think about in the middle of the night. DH has just rolled onto his back so will be snoring soon, and I fully anticipate falling asleep about fifteen minutes before the alarm, again.

WinWinnieTheWay · 24/09/2020 05:04

I hate that t when I finally get groggy just before I have to get up.

I'm going to try again,

Travelledtheworld · 24/09/2020 05:06

Morning folks. I have been tossing and turning since 2am so just got up for a cup of hot milk and a bowl of cereal.
Got an important meeting this afternoon I need to be focused for, so that's been playing on my mind.
Might fit in an hours sleep before I have to get up again.
Sigh.
