Here it is. A thread for those of us find ourselves awake for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. It might be stress, grief, illness, menopause or just the way you are.

A place to chat and get to know one another and share tips (no mention of camomile tea or hot baths though).

See you all in about 5 hours...

I think l finally got off around 3:45, it’s just gone 8:00 am now, so not a good night.

All please remember that the night causes the mind to exagerate things.

Why is it always the rubbish songs that get stuck in your head though? In contrast, my anthem is “Girl on Fire” by Alicia Keys, those who don’t know it, give it a listen and, maybe, share it with your daughters who are off to uni etc.

@WinWinnieTheWay - l think being “laid in bed” ( literally in my case ) would have been what l needed to sort me out. Wink, even though you were not referring to it in that context.

@SoLegendarySoExtra - l wouldn’t even mention it unless your daughter asks. It’s best she sees things as what they are - 100% normal.

In the nicest possible way, I hope l don’t catch up with you all again tonight. Flowers

How's your son doing @flapjackfairy?

Thack · 17/09/2020 02:05

Morning folk! I made it to 01:30. I did have an hours doze this afternoon as I was off work, but I don't think that made a difference.

How was everyone's Wednesday?
Hope your DS is OK flapjack fairy and that you are well asleep.

Thack · 17/09/2020 02:07

P. S. Current tune is 'do you really want to hurt me'.
Ironically, I usually use Karma chameleon to get other songs out of my head....

TopBitchoftheWitches · 17/09/2020 02:34

Slept from 9pm to 1am so at least for some sleep. Funny thing is the previous two nights I slept all night.

This night waking happens a couple of times a week now.

I've got up and have a cup of tea now.

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 17/09/2020 02:34

My poor 5 month old is full of snot. He wants his dummy but can’t suck it because his nose is so full. He’s also got a temperature of 38.3. I’m sure it’s teething related. We’ve had all the signs but I’m obviously sorting about covid too. I wish I could help him more Sad

Whatelsecouldibecalled · 17/09/2020 02:49

Oh and a projectile vomit down my back and over the bed now too

WildAboutMyPlanet · 17/09/2020 02:58

Insomnia sufferer over here! Every night for years sand years and years...@ColourMeExhaustedwjere are you on holiday?

HanPanPeg · 17/09/2020 03:18

35 weeks pregnant and so hot - have a toddler in bed as well and waiting for them to be in a deep enough sleep to transfer back to own bed. Just can’t sleep at the moment! But was never a ‘good sleeper’ before

WinWinnieTheWay · 17/09/2020 03:59

Hello!

Had too much salt on my dinner and I've woken with a desert like thirst. I did a big walk yesterday and I was hoping that the fresh air and exercise would have kept me asleep, alas no.

Here I am ! Chronic insomniac for 20 years and am usually a persistent 3.20am waker. But tonight have been awake since 2am despite being outside all day and had a long bike ride. Should be knackered.
Aaaargh.

Travelledtheworld · 17/09/2020 04:02

@WinWinnieTheWay hello there !
oh no, sadly there doesn't seem to be any correlation between getting plenty of exercise and having a good nights sleep. I am really fit and sporty and it doesn't seem to help.

Good to exercise though, it does help you feel better even when sleep deprived.

Tillygetsit · 17/09/2020 04:07

Hello 👋 I can never sleep until about 5am. I think my body is conditioned to stay awake incase dcs need me. They all sleep through now but I can't sleep for love nor money.

HowFastIsTooFast · 17/09/2020 04:44

Hello! Here I am wide awake and on the couch having tired of listening to DP's teeth-gnashing & snoring. He woke up momentarily, asked if I minded him putting a podcast on and told me that the screen will wake up my brain, so I bailed out. I know he's right about the screen but after an hour lying awake for the 3rd time since I went to bed at 10pm I'm past caring.

Usually a good sleeper but last few days I've had all my usual physical signs of an anxiety episode, stomach ache, not sleeping, can't concentrate, grumpy, want to be left alone etc. Just wish my brain knew what my body is anxious about Hmm

lookatmememe · 17/09/2020 05:00

I was reading the thread about cake and wine delivery and have a hankering for both right now! Wish I was blissfully snoring like DH!

Thack · 18/09/2020 02:38

Morning! How was your Thursday?

My little swine of a Ddog was pacing at 01:30 and woke me up. He usually has an upset tum to do that, so best responded to! I'd probably have woken soon so it's not worth being upset, but I was hopeful for sleep Sad

I had a new manager last week. He must think I'm a right winge-pot; lack of sleep makes me naggy and impatient.

Happylittlethoughts · 18/09/2020 02:48

Hello🦉

Cheesewine · 18/09/2020 02:52

@happylittlethoughts hello. Up feeding my 3 month old

catfeets · 18/09/2020 03:23

Ooh didn't realise we had our own thread Smile. I'm a chronic insomniac and it seems the more tired I am, the less sleep I get.
As usual I haven't had a wink of sleep yet and both my baby and DP have been fast asleep since midnight. My DP has an exam in the morning so I'm trying not to wake him while I'm sat in bed munching cookies.

HardJustGotHarder · 18/09/2020 03:29

Hay everyone....

Im always awake at this time....

Just read the thread about frontline NHS workers dreading the coming weeks, and i def wont sleep now....

How is everyone doing?

Igmum · 18/09/2020 03:34

Morning all - great thread 👍. I'm a chronic 3 am waker but during lockdown no longer had to set my alarm on weekdays (6 am latest for getting DD to school, sometimes 4 or 4.30 am for my work) and was getting some cracking nights sleep. The moment the schools went back I was awake at 1 or 2 am 😬. Currently snuggling with DCat and working up the willingness to stagger upstairs to my home office and do some work

Thack · 18/09/2020 03:36

@Cheesewine I bet it's so tiring! Will you get back to sleep ok after?

@catfeets good choice! Do you find food helps? My stomach sometimes feels uneasy in the night but I don't want to start the habit.

@HardJustGotHarder I'm more stressed than I realise this week. Got a big audit Thurs, new manager started last week and I'm 13 weeks and starting to show so I need to tell him/the owner soon. How're you?

Thack · 18/09/2020 03:38

@Igmum that's a lot of work! Will you get the time back later?
