Does a monthly/annual salary pay for "weekends"

Some lady says that it does. I'm sure it doesn't. It pays for how many hours you're contracted to pay and divides it evenly over 12 months. Who's right?

It pays for the time you are contracts to work e.g. you are contracts to work 35 hours per week over a business standard hours which are mon-fri. You can however be contracted to work weekends but that depends on the business you work for.

Depends on the job. With some roles it's absolutely expected you will work in the evening or at the weekend without additional remuneration (e.g. teaching, management, etc). A salary may be high to reflect the pressure of the role, and the understanding that the job needs to be done regardless of how many hours it takes.

If you don’t ordinarily work weekends then it doesn’t. I would certainly expect to be paid extra if I had to work on Saturday or Sunday.

Does she work a job when weekend working is normal?

If you are paid £30,000 per annum and contracted to work 37 hours a week, you would get an hourly rate by dividing 30,000 / 52 weeks, and then the weekly amount by 37 hours. If you work Monday to Friday, you'd get the daily rate by dividing the weekly rate by 5 days, not 7 days.

Depends on your job-plan or contract.

Your salary is how much you earn every year.

It is divided by the frequency of your pay - i.e. 12 for monthly, 52 for weekly.

If your contract says you work mon-fri, you dont get paid for weekends, if it says you do weekends, then your salary includes the work you do at weekends.

It all started because somebody said she was paid £700pw and contracted to work 6 days. She was told they'd only need her 5 days instead of six, so only paid her £500. This lady said that's as OK as the £700 were to be spread over 7 days. I said no, the £700 is to be spread over 6 days so she's owed money.

I agree with you. Her daily rate would have been £700/6 so they owe her money.

Although if she was contracted for 6 days, she should be paid for that whether they used her or not. But that’s a whole different thing.

I get paid to work 34 hrs a week, Tuesday-Friday. If I have to work in other days of the week (optional, but required several times a year), then I get paid more.

It depends on the contracted days/hours. Mine is 20 days a month including every other weekend.
