Is it ok to eat this chicken?

I've just taken a chicken out of the freezer to cook tomorrow and it says it's not suitable for home freezing.
Sorry for the boring question, I just don't want food poisoning! Is it ok to cook and eat the chicken or should I bin it?

Bin it. It's obviously been frozen already at some point.

Orchidflower1 · 14/09/2020 21:03

Bin- it’s probably been frozen and defrosted without cooking already.

Sootikinstew · 14/09/2020 21:03

Why on earth wouldn't it be suitable for home freezing? Is it just your bog standard plain whole chicken?

Did you buy it fresh from the supermarket? Is it stuffed with something that might not be so nice frozen and then defrosted?

CoolYourBeansMySon · 14/09/2020 21:08

It's a cook in the bag marinated roast chicken from the chilled section. It didn't occur to me to check!

Just bumping. I can't find anything online as it's all a bit contradictory!

It is usually the case that chilled items marked as not suitable for home freezing have been previously frozen before then being defrosted for sale.

userxx · 15/09/2020 13:00

I'd eat it to be honest.

Littleposh · 15/09/2020 13:00

Chef here, don't risk it

RedCatBlueCat · 15/09/2020 13:08

I'd cook it. It's probably the marinade that doesnt freeze very well. Does the packet say on it anywhere that it's been previously frozen?

Fifipop185 · 15/09/2020 13:52

Bin it, and I say that as someone who hates food waste and am usually pretty reckless with reheating takeaways etc. You can't trust chicken! Confused

CoolYourBeansMySon · 15/09/2020 15:13

Oh dear, I will bin it then. Takeaway tonight it is!

SummerHouse · 15/09/2020 15:16

I would totally eat that. But I love takeaway too. Smile

userxx · 15/09/2020 15:20

That's a shame, I did the same with a chilled chicken and it was lovely once cooked. I'd feel too bad throwing the poor thing away after it had given up its life for me.

SummerHouse · 15/09/2020 15:33

Actually, I've gone off the idea now. Confused
