To think these workmen are dodgy as anything

Some workmen have rolled up on the street offering driveways this month. They did one up the street and started knocking on other doors offering work. They got another job at a house opposite me. Without sounding horrible they have neglected it completely. The whole house and garden. Think clutter in all the windows. Never opened the curtains. Porch overflowing with junk. Overgrown garden. Broken Fences. Just a really grotty run down property. They agreed originally to a 3 day driveway. But these workmen are now decluttering the garage and house. Ripping all the back garden out. It's turned into a six week job. Hearing Everything from bad language to spitting. Parking trucks all over the road. Kids working with them. I went out this morning and I was asked by one for the postcode. I said to him well mine is different to hers as they vary all the way up the street. He asked for it again so I told him mine and he read it out on the phone. I said to him again, that won't be the correct one for that house, he put his hand up to say shut up as he was talking. He has been very polite to me as a whole. Spoke to my kids. Called me love and made sure his pick up truck isn't blocking my car. But I thought he was particularly ignorant! Trying to politely say he is from the traveller community here. I'm not sure if he wasn't meaning to be rude as that's just how he speaks.

Some are driving vehicles from different parts of the country with complete different companies on the side. They work until 8pm and stuff at night. Come and go throughout the day. Different blokes are popping to take rubbish away and things. Then the boss bloke has been driving up and down today with a women driving him about. I've just had my kids In the garden and one was sat in one of the vehicles watching a video about dope and weed on full blast.

I have never known workmen to not stick to what they offer. But I'm also dreading them being around for another month. I am fed up of leaving the house and having to walk past aload of sweary blokes.

I'm just having a grumble really. No problem with people getting work done. But I can't believe how many different men are turning up each day. He must be bringing random friends with him. The lady they are working for said to me Friday it's draining dealing with all the men all the day. I wanted to say to her, you really should have shopped around for quotes as I bet you could have got a much smaller professional team. They're really in your face. They haven't put anything down in her garden so they can walk out easily. The gardens a mud pit. I've never known workmen not to put something down so you can get across the garden safely.

Well aware its none of my business and stuff. But can't wait until they are gone now. My partner was disgusted at their language the other day Infront of our kids.

Is this thinly veiled traveler racism?

Sharnasharn · 14/09/2020 16:15

No it isn't.

What would you like us to say here? Shall we share all our worst tales of traveller workmen? Hmm
It sounds rubbish but you sound massively overinvested. Bit of a curtain twitcher.

Sharnasharn · 14/09/2020 16:27

You'd be sick of them too swearing and parking allover. Chatting outside when the kids are ready for bed. They need to respect people abit more. No need for swearing in a public place.

Cowboys are cowboys, doesn’t matter what ‘community’ they are from. More fool the woman who accepted the work. I’d just ignore the language and behaviour and just ask them to move if blocking you in etc.

@Saucery

I've never seen anything like it. At least 12 different men have been working there over a week. I don't know how they can run a business with such disgusting language. There's men from both communities there. Not picking at travellers. Just saying the way he put his hand up at me to tell me to shut up was very rude!

Then you know to say “I don’t know” and keep on walking next time he asks you anything Grin
