Just wondering if anyone takes this as an extra vitamin boost. Is it worth it? Or is a vitamin c tablet just the same? Thinking about it for me, DH and DD (15mo) as we're back to work and nursery and want to boost our immune systems as much as possible! We all already have a vitamin d supplement so is this something we could try?

Ever the sceptic, I looked it up and found this which makes interesting reading.

I don't know if it's any better than a multi vitamin/vit C, but it tastes lovely.

I've been trying to find a syrup, or cordial, or tea with the same taste.

Pukka elderberry tea is NOT a good taste - discovered the expensive way. Grin

I don’t think it’s the vitamin c per se but the elderberry extract that has more of a positive impact. That study was interesting.

I take it from time to time but at the suggested dosage a bottle lasts about a week!

My first thought was of Calpol with a bit of Sambuca mixed in. 😂

Best way to support immune health is through the diet rather than supplements. So eat a variety of vegetables and fruits in a varied diet. Not much processed food. Aim for 30 plants a week. Then things like kefir/ kombucha/ natural yoghurt really help the gut. A huge percentage of our immune system is in our gut.

I wouldn’t recommend taking lots of supplements unless you know you are deficient.

Thanks for the study @wowfudge! I bought some at the start of lockdown and haven't used it yet, so will start the bottle and see how we go!

The recommended dose for adults in winter is loads - you’d go through a bottle in a few days and it’s so expensive! I did buy some on the Boots 3 for 2 and everyone is getting 5ml a day - one of my DC loves the taste, the other doesn’t.

Elderberries can be found now so you could probably make something at home.
