Hopefully full of hard working and creative people and full of affordable housing

It'd be the People's Republic of Vince, and the capital would be called Vincetown.

Everyone would have a home, there'd be zero poverty and no need for food banks.

It would be a fair and equal society.

The only thing I'd insist upon in return is a picture of me in everyone's living room Wink

Lavender79 · 14/09/2020 00:45

It wouldn't have bizarre politicians anywhere in sight.

Plus, it would be the law to keep your front garden tidy.

Humbersider · 14/09/2020 00:59

Empty.

Other people give me the pip.

AdoptedBumpkin · 14/09/2020 01:04

This is such a good idea for a thread.

I would nationalise the railways to begin with. I would also increase the minimum wage.

YouWereGr8InLittleMenstruators · 14/09/2020 01:04

Ecocide would be a criminal offense.

1000umbrellas · 14/09/2020 01:13

Freedom of speech. Littering punishable by flogging. All the street lights turned off on nights when there's an interesting celestial event so you can see it.

littlemsattitude · 14/09/2020 01:16

Spacious with no overcrowding. Mountains and beaches with everybody within easy reach of both, no more than an hour. Beautiful scenery, laid back lifestyle.
Proper social values and tolerance of all regardless of income. Recognition in school that all children can and do add value and have something to offer, nobody is written off.

I would just like nice families and nice people to live in my country. I would provide the best schools, best job opportunities and best healthcare. I would like my country to be in a beautiful location preferably an island with endless white sand beaches, mountains offering snow sports and would love my citizens to achieve the best in everything such as most gold medals in the olympics, best football teams, best entertainment where other countries love to watch our tv programmes and films. I would like my country to have the best food and recipes and a rich history. My flag would be this 🔥🔥🔥💪🥇🟦🟩🟨and t

Free daycare from birth

ButterflyRuns · 14/09/2020 02:24

I'd want it to be a fairer country without the levels of inequality we see in this country and have a real safety net for people when they fall on hard times - compassion.

AlCalavicci · 14/09/2020 02:44

Crime would not exist or if it did punishment would be harsh and swift.

Affordable housing
Good wages
Benefits would be only given to them that genuinely need it
Child benefits for 1st 2 DCs only
Mistreatment of any animal would be punished by publicly flogging
Good public transport
Roads would be well maintained, ( the look like Swiss cheeses near me )
Government would be held to there promises

There must be loads more but I can't think of the right now
.

ManservantHecubus · 14/09/2020 02:58

Total fantasy land now, i would fill the country with bouncy castles, and public transport would be roller coasters, water slides and ponies.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 14/09/2020 02:58

Free ice-cream dispensers on every lamp-post.

DianaT1969 · 14/09/2020 04:01

I wouldn't have over 800 House of 'Lords' costing taxpayers around £5,000 per month in 'lifetime benefits for the well-connected'.
I wouldn't have a monarchy.
Philip Green wouldn't be allowed in, even if his yacht was on fire.
We'd have our own version of Amazon, where profits would be split with some going into the public purse (a form of taxation if you like).

FrenchFancie · 14/09/2020 05:27

I would want a fair society without a huge gap between the top and bottom, I’d do this by raising minimum wage and ensuring the top levels of a company could only pay a certain multiple of the bottom wage.

I’d make a universal basic income so that no one went without.

I’d make state education better, with decent spending on schools teachers and facilities. Private schools would have to take a %age of non fee paying local children.

I would reform the nhs to make patient care front and centre of all decisions- rather than budget. I would trust the doctors and nurses to say what resources were needed and reduce some of the managers (I’m well aware that a hospital can’t run itself)

I would reform the criminal justice system to reflect that fat that a lot of crime is bourn out of poverty and lack of life chances / choices. Drug crime would be dealt with by rehab and employment, rather than punishment. The focus of the justice system would largely be on prevention of reoffending rather than on punishment.

To pay for this all, taxes would be higher than in the U.K. but the citizens would view this as part of thier civic duty and not try to dodge paying tax.

Human rights would be enshrined and the society would run on the basis that all humans are alike in dignity, discrimination of any sort is banned. Every member of society has equal value regardless of thier age / sex / race / sexuality / gender / trans etc. Hate speech would be unheard of.

Refugees would be welcomed and integrated into society. We would maintain ties with Europe.

That’s about it I think!!

Porridgeoat · 14/09/2020 05:33

High taxes but high standards of care for the vulnerable. Green. Beaches. Mountains. Proper cookery lessons for kids weekly throughout primary and secondary. Bike paths everywhere. Cheap property prices. Eco power. Low population. Snowy winters, sunny summers. 4 day working week.

caughtalightsneeze · 14/09/2020 05:36

I would have adequate resources to tackle low level crime such as antisocial behaviour and vandalism. And adequate laws in place to deal with it. These things cause utter misery up and down the country day and daily but because they generally don't affect the ruling classes they just get ignored.

Similarly I would want a society where the idea that it is fine for males to verbally harass females going about their day to day lives would be just unimaginable. Wolf whistling at a schoolgirl as you drive past in a van should be viewed by society in the same way that people view animal cruelty or mugging 90 year olds. i.e. something only a complete lowlife would do.

PhilCornwall1 · 14/09/2020 05:40

Completely empty apart from 4 people. Everyone else can do one.

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 14/09/2020 06:35

Covid free Grin
It would be illegal to fully pave your drive unless there were mitigating circumstances eg small drive and mobility issues. Otherwise there would have to be a certain percentage of grass / plants. Where I live the drives are easily big enough for 2 - 3 cars and there’s loads of off street parking too. The amount of fully paved driveways with not one single bit of anything living depresses me enormously.
