Help! Black bit on iron (pic included)

I have a black bit just turn up on my iron after ironing my son's school trousers and I didn't notice until I'd done his polo shirt Shock luckily I could pick off the little bit it marked. So I've done all the darks but I have a ton of polo shirts needing to be ironed and it won't come off, I've tried white vinegar but this only got a little bit off. Any other suggestions?

Also, this happened to my last iron too which is why I got this new one. Any ideas why it keeps happening to me? Thanks!

was the iron too hot for the trousers? Could have melted Teflon coating on the trousers. You can get iron cleaners i think.

Maybe turn the iron back on and try scraping it off when its warm

It on too hot for the fabric at a guess like pp said.

I’m sure there is a trick with paracetamol to get marks off an iron.
I usually just (when it’s still hot) drag it down the edge of the ironing board to get most of it off then wet the washing up sponge and, using the stiff scrubby bit -being careful not to burn my fingers-give it a quick scrub for a couple of seconds then wipe iron on the edge of the board again & repeat the scrub/wipe until it’s gone.

When this has happened to mine I’ve used a metal scourer to clean it, and it worked just fine. No apparent damage to the base plate as a result

Paracetamol tablets rubbed on the sole of the iron (when cool!) are very effective at getting marks off irons.

No real advice but this afternoon I managed to knock my iron off the ironing board onto DS1's school bag. I did one of those horrible slow motion tangled up dashes round the ironing board to pick it up. It melted part of the strap but I managed to scrape the resulting residue off on the ironing board cover. I now need a new ironing board cover.

Hot iron. Rub the black mark with paracetamol. Works like magic but careful of your fingers.

dementedpixie · 13/09/2020 20:53

I've just seen the paracetamol hack online

DangerMouse17 · 13/09/2020 20:54

Brillo pad got it off for me in the past...

Paracetamol. Mind your fingers

Bigyellowsunshine · 13/09/2020 21:19

Paracetamol (held with tweezers) on a hot iron - it’s like magic

toiletpaper · 13/09/2020 22:06

Thank you all so much, I've never heard of the crushed paracetamol trick but it worked amazingly well!

Forgot to add - I'm a bugger for putting the iron on full every time I use it, guess I know why it's doing it now Grin

Pink Stuff Paste. Works on absolutely anything! It's the most magical thing I have ever come across.
