Hi all.
I’m looking to hear about some of your experiences regarding diagnosis for concerns we have around my LO.
Our primary concern is that my LO who is now 12.5 months old, almost never makes eye contact. He’ll give ‘fleeting’ eye contact if playing games like Peekaboo or we’re playing high energy games with him, but at all other times he’ll actively look everywhere but our eyes.
We are also concerned about some delays in his social and communication development, like lack mimicking, gesturing, pointing, and saying nothing more than ‘arghhhhhhhhhh’. However this has ‘very slightly’ improved in the last few days, although he’s still not really mimicking other than blowing raspberries. Our LO still continues to show a lack of willingness to socially interact with us or other people, preferring to run around like a headless chicken to explore.
To be clear, it’s not the fact he runs around and he doesn’t have time to give eye contact. Even when he’s tired or calm, he still doesn’t give eye contact more than fleetingly.
Doing a lot of research, clearing we are thinking our LO is showing some very big red flags for autism spectrum disorder. We have a home visit soon to check his development focusing on these areas of concern.
So to the question - has anyone else’s LO showed these symptoms and either improved to a point this wasn’t an issue or been diagnosed with anything other than autism?
