I have a new deck and want something comfy for it. I’d love an outdoor sofa but can’t find one without spending £££. Rattan stuff is quite expensive plus how long does it last? Will it start rotting? Isi have room to store cushions but that’s a real faff in spring/summer each day! What do you all do?

I don’t beed a massive set and not worried about matching tables etc as I have a fold up one should we eat outside, which we don’t do often due to flies... any suggestions??

I really want to get something now not next year. I do still sit out in the winter as that area gets the morning sun so it’s nice to drink a coffee out there.

Thanks @TSSDNCOP most of them aren’t available to buy though.

Thanks @orangenasturtium I’ll have a look at those too.

That’s nice @Whyislifesohardsometimes although I wouldn’t have the space for the stools and the table is quite big. Where is it from? I have a garden centre near me but the one they have is nearly £1000! It’s so hard when you can’t try it out... ideally I want one with high backs/not half backs one as I have a bad back and want to read out there on it so will be uncomfortable with just cushion.... just need the L shape sofa more so that one with the stool added to the end (dc then won’t argue over having the bit to put their feet up on then) , not stools ... Would like a table but having a glass top worries me

@Whatisthename you can use this code on some of their items SE1EOS100 to get £100 off

Whatisthename · 15/09/2020 20:04

@Whyislifesohardsometimes I came across their website but have never heard of them so was worried about buying of a random site! Is it good quality? What are the cushions like?

OP posts:
Whatisthename · 15/09/2020 20:06

Fab thanks for that. Also what are the backs like? How high? Roughly, not expecting you to go out and measure Grin

@Whatisthename its very comfy, i was recommended them by someone who has one of their other outdoor sets. All their reviews are great too, I cant complain. I suffer with my back too, although I have bulked it out with more cushions but I'm cushion obsessed. I had no issues with them, they kept me up to date on delivery too.

@Whyislifesohardsometimes thanks. I like the Chesterton....

We got a cheap metal set from
B and Q in the sale a couple of months ago.
Every similar to this
www.diy.com/departments/denia-wooden-4-seater-coffee-set/3663602423973_BQ.prd
It was surprisingly comfy , and an absolute bargain.

HerNameWasEliza · 15/09/2020 20:33

@Graffitiqueen

We have one very like this one: www.argos.co.uk/product/2070739?clickSR=slp:term:garden%20corner%20sofa:2:169:1

We bought it two years ago. It has sat out the whole time without being covered and still looks as good as new.

We had a similar set from argos. Total waste of money. 3 years in the steel frame rusted and the frame collapsed. I would buy plastic now if can't afford aluminium frame - unless you are luck enough to be able to put the furniture away in bad weather/ winter (we don't have any space for that).
Whyislifesohardsometimes · 15/09/2020 20:33

@Whatisthename I'm not home at the moment, the backs are fine for me, if you go to website each item has the dimensions. Mine is also heavy 80kgs its not going anywhere Grin

Whatisthename · 15/09/2020 20:47

I’ll get my measuring stick out in the morning whilst on the deck Grin

We have this one from next online, had it about 3 yrs, we bring the cushions in during the winter and bad weather but the sofa stays out uncovered all year round and it's as good as the day we bought it. It shifts slightly in the wind but no big deal.

Whatisthename · 16/09/2020 09:28

@Whyislifesohardsometimes do you have a cover? I looked for a cover for it and it’s another £129!!! Although it isn’t in stock...

OP posts:
FizzyPink · 16/09/2020 13:11

We have this from Out and Out - www.outandout.com/Copenhagen-luxury-corner-rattan-set-out-and-out-original?search=Copenhagen&category_id=0

I absolutely love it but some of their reviews are terrible. However, they were great for us and I found a £200 discount code online so it was too good a deal not to buy it. It’s so comfy and was super easy to put together

Whatisthename · 16/09/2020 14:15

@Turnedouttoes thanks. Think I’m going for the Chesterton but I am worried about the glass top table?!? Can you cover glass with anything to make it safer?? Maybe I store the table and only get it out if I have guests... but then that’s a faff plus storage...

OP posts:
FizzyPink · 16/09/2020 14:22

Ours is marble rather than glass but I have another set that's got a glass top and to be honest it's never been a problem. I use it mainly to put plates of food on for BBQs and it's pretty sturdy.

I've just checked with my Honey plug in and the code TVOFFER is showing £200 off the Chesterton so only £399

Daftapath · 16/09/2020 14:35

I bought this one from Harts about 3 years ago (I see it is out of stock though) l. I did get a cover with it but I think it was much cheaper then! I have had to replace the cover this summer and bought a fairly cheap one from Amazon which I would do again rather than pay their current price.
It does come with a glass top for the table but I have never used it. Don't trust teens not to sit on it and break it so it is just used as another seat/table.

At the time, I ummed and ahhed about spending all that money (and it was the cheapest I could find!) but I haven't once regretted it. It has had so much use by me and also both my teens and their friends. The garden is used much more because of it.

I bring the cushions in over the winter and put the two separate pieces on the sofa, under cover. Then leave them out all summer, covered every night to keep the foxes off! It looks as good as new, bar a few marks on the covers that haven't come off in the wash.

Whatisthename · 16/09/2020 14:39

@Turnedouttoes thanks so much!!!! What’s my honey plug in???

I’m worried as iv read so many cases of tempered glass tables shattering randomly... I’m guessing due to heat. It hits the high 30’s here when it gets hot (south east) so it worries me. Plus football mad child... if it shattered how on earth would youPick up all the pieces? Plus where the deck is, always in direct sun...

OP posts:
Whatisthename · 16/09/2020 14:41

Thanks @Daftapath shame so much is unavailable. I think ideally I need a corner one to stop arguments with dc about who sits on the L part to put their feet up.....

OP posts:
FizzyPink · 16/09/2020 14:44

Honey is a browser extension that just sits in your internet browser and then when you get to the basket page on a website it will automatically search the internet for all the possible codes and give you the best savings it can find.

Ahh okay, I don't have any football mad children but our garden is South facing in SE London and gets sun for the entire day during the summer and we've never had any problems with it, although I guess you can never say never! I'd imagine you can take the glass off quite easily though if you were particularly worried

Whatisthename · 16/09/2020 14:52

@Turnedouttoes oh my kids keep going on about honey and saving money and how I should have it, must be that! I will tell them they are right for once! Grin I’ll have a look at that.

I think now you’ve so kindly saved me £200 it takes it way under budget so will order it and try take the glass off.. if I can’t then.. I’ll cross that bridge when I need to!

I haven’t rtft so sorry if its moved on. I spent €1000 on a metal framed, sofa and chairs with a fire pit table, over ten years ago. I’ve repainted a small bit of rust once in that time. It’s comfy. The cushions could do with updating but they’re still plump, waterproof and have no tears. It was a lot of money (for me) at the time but worth every penny. I can’t see what I wouldn’t get another ten years out of it.

But in that time I’ve gone through two cheap-ish sets of wooden garden dining table and chairs. I painted the second set every year, and still only managed three summers. They were still several hundred euros so not completely junk.

I can’t afford to replace the dining set and right now we’re not entertaining. But I’m going to look for a metal frame when we do. I think with garden furniture, that you get (within reason of course) what you pay for.

UnfinishedSymphon · 16/09/2020 14:54

Get a cover from somewhere like Amazon, the company we got ours from wanted £50, I've just bought a decent quality one for £29.99

Daftapath · 16/09/2020 15:10

@Whatisthename the table and footstool are completely moveable. We often have the footstool in the middle and we can all put our feet on it (three of us).
I have been meaning to try to buy another cushion for the table to have two foot stools but just haven't got around to it.
