Do hormones make Male kids hair grow faster?

Or is ds1 an anomaly. Just wondering if it's a thing that has passed me by.

Look at the percentile charts. Is his growth out of whack or roughly following the curve?

My DS's hair is growing faster than he is!
Haircut for going back to school took 3-4 inches off! He'd had it cut 6 months before. 1/2 and inch a month at least.
I thought hair was meant to grow at 1/4 inch a month.

DS is just coming up 13 btw.
