Advice please! Would you go for promotion?

Sorry if this is a silly question!

I had my appraisal this week and it went really well, my manager mentioned there is likely to be a new role in next few months and suggested I think about whether to apply (I think I'd be likely to get the job, she gave that impression too).

It would take my salary from c£30k to c£40k (brilliant!) I have two dc aged 6 and 8, I'm a single parent, their dad has them one day per week.

My biggest concern is that getting promoted would mean a bit more stress, responsibility and I'd probably need to do a bit more work in the evenings to make sure everything done, so a bit less time with dcs. I'm already full time, but I know the higher paid role obviously carries more pressure!

Would you go for it? What are your experiences?

Well done on your positive appraisal OP. Always good to hear, officially, that you're doing well! 🥇

Yes I'd apply for the promotion. Make sure you know exactly what it entails, get the job description ahead of the application if possible, so you can get comfortable with what you'll need to deliver, and any changes that will impact on your professional and personal time.

If you need to buy in professional services to free up your time with the children (eg a good cleaner, ironing service, gardener if necessary, doing online food shopping etc) then do so to maximise your time and energy.

Don't forget, that extra cash is also likely to enable you to increase your benefits percentages (eg pension, death in service, private health care if these are provided).

Good luck! 🌹

After mat leave I went from 3 days a week, to 5 and through a few promotion rounds. Yes it's a bit more of a juggling act but the extra money is quite frankly, worth it.

You’ve absolutely got this. I have gone through a couple of promotions, with 2 small children. Yes it is more work but I have more flexibility now (and much more £)
