If she's at school with them then i honestly don't see the difference

Bearnecessity · 12/09/2020 17:39

No let the poor sod go out.

Frenchfancy · 12/09/2020 17:39

Why no? My Dds have been going to the cinema with friends since they were about 12.

lughnasadh · 12/09/2020 17:40

Why not?

We've been to teh cinema a couple of times, so have the children, with us and friends.

hamstersarse · 12/09/2020 17:40

It’s completely fine

What are you worried about?

bengalcat · 12/09/2020 17:41

I’d let him go .

1happyhippie · 12/09/2020 17:42

My dd has been since they reopened.
Once their back in school they are mixing with many others.
The cinema will be less crowded than their school.
Dd said it was pretty quiet, people were well spaced out and she felt it was fine.

whirlwindwallaby · 12/09/2020 17:42

What's the problem? DS started going with mates at 12.

millymollymoomoo · 12/09/2020 17:45

Er, let him go ?

oldmum22 · 12/09/2020 17:46

Under normal circumstances , I have no issues (within reason) . However I am thinking about social distancing eg, entering and exiting the cinema . Put it this way, I havent been since this all kicked off . Our area is on the "of concern" list , which is another thing. I just thought I would ask for advice .

During Covid- no.
Any other time id think 16yo was fine.

cariadlet · 12/09/2020 17:48

Those posters who asked what the problem was because their children have gone with friends since they were about 12 are being a bit obtuse; I'm sure the op wouldn't have thought twice about it before covid.

It's natural at the moment to worry about the number of friends going, whether they socially distance among each other , whether they are able to socially distance with other cinema goers, hygiene measures etc.

hypochondriaceveywhere · 12/09/2020 17:49

Is he responsible normally? If so let him go. I would let mine.

cariadlet · 12/09/2020 17:49

Cross posted with op's update.

CormoranStrike · 12/09/2020 17:50

I’ve been to the cinema three times - most recently this week and there were only three people in the entire cinema screening and nobody at all in the foyer apart from staff.

oldmum22 · 12/09/2020 17:55

cariadlet, thank you for explaining , my apologies if my post wasn't clear, in the olden days this would not have warranted a message.

ComoranStrike, and 1 happyhippie thank you for that info .
Spied- I am glad I am not the only one .

I've been to the cinema as have my teens. The ones we've been to have been quiet and well organised.

Oblomov20 · 12/09/2020 17:59

Of course it's ok. Why would it not be?

delilahbucket · 12/09/2020 18:00

DS went with his best mate today. It was half empty and they spend all day at school with each other. If they are socialising at school, why not outside of school? Just not in a group bigger than six after Monday.

halcyondays · 12/09/2020 18:01

It’s fairly obvious that op was thinking about the Covid situation rather than just wondering if a 16 year old could go to the cinema.

HeddaGarbled · 12/09/2020 18:02

Perhaps you could ask him to find out what Covid-safe measures the cinema has put into place. I understand they’ve been more or less empty and several are likely to go out of business, so I’d be inclined to let them go while they still can 🙁

whirlwindwallaby · 12/09/2020 18:02

Is he vulnerable or us anyone in the household vulnerable? If not, then at 16 I'd say it's his decision.

PotteringAlong · 12/09/2020 18:04

I’ve been to the cinema with my kids - it was almost empty and felt very safe.

dworky · 12/09/2020 18:06

Yes, definitely yes FGS

BogRollBOGOF · 12/09/2020 18:06

It's a lower risk than them being in school together!
