FGS people have lost their common sense!

Remmy123 · 12/09/2020 18:07

Yes go - he will have to wear a mask in cinema apart from when he watches film.

islockdownoveryet · 12/09/2020 18:10

Of course they want to go and of course let them .
Do you honestly think kids should stay home ?
And honestly people stop coming on mumsnet to ask for approval you will get very mixed messages and opinions.
If you are really unsure go on gov website.

oldmum22 · 12/09/2020 18:12

Thanks to the posters who gave good advice . Comments about my common sense are uncalled for #be kind .

Most cinemas have an awful lot of safety measures in place - socially distanced seating, hand sanitiser everywhere, entry and exit paths..... in addition, sadly they are extremely quiet anyway. Even if they did not have measures in place there would be no problem social distancing because there will probably be hardly any other people there.

I have been a few times since they reopened and apart from the opening day of Tenet there haven’t been more than 5-20 other people in the screen.

yomellamoHelly · 12/09/2020 18:26

If he's going to school, surely it's no greater risk (probably less).

maddiemookins16mum · 12/09/2020 18:37

Do you honestly think your teen is doing any kind of social distancing?

implantsandaDyson · 12/09/2020 19:04

My 15 year old went last night with a few friends - she had a great time. Really enjoyed it, I've just booked my 12 year old tickets for tomorrow with a some friends. We live in an area that is going to enter further restrictions next week (NI).

Doingitaloneandproud · 12/09/2020 19:09

Me and my ds have been to the cinema, I felt really safe. They social distance the seat bookings so groups aren't near each other, it works well Smile

savetti · 12/09/2020 19:13

I’ve been to the cinema, it was 100 times safer than the supermarket
No queues, hardly anyone there really

SomewhereEast · 12/09/2020 19:14

Yes. Cinemas aren't exactly rammed at the moment & have various measures in place (masks when moving round, very spaced out seating). Teens need some outlet & a trip to somewhere quite tightly regulated such as a cinema is pretty harmless. Also I think at 16 you need to let him make his own choices to some extent

ButteryPuffin · 12/09/2020 19:18

How many of them are planning to go? That's the key question. And are they already in daily contact at school?

PastaAndPizzaPlease · 12/09/2020 19:19

Just let them go and enjoy what freedom we’ve got!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 12/09/2020 20:26

No i wouldn’t agree to it. There would be no SD and even though six can meet SD still applies.

Honorocarrollkelly · 12/09/2020 21:11

Our cinema (Omniplex) does have social distancing. Seats are ‘locked’ around the group that books. So no one outside your group will be less than 2m from you.
Also very good social distancing on exit/entry, and you can preorder snacks etc.
It was very safe and well controlled.
Definitely better than supermarkets.
I let my teen go to places with others from his class, they are together for most of school anyway. As long as it is within guidelines.

BananaPop2020 · 12/09/2020 21:13

Why are you overthinking this? Let him go.

Comefromaway · 12/09/2020 21:15

Ds has been to the cinema a couple of tunes, once with his girlfriend once with his best friend.

The place was virtually empty, everything was contactless. One of the safest places to go.

billyt · 12/09/2020 21:15

Friend of mine went last week. She was on her own as other half was working.

She was the only person in the screening.

CokeyCola · 12/09/2020 21:16

I wouldn't.

Desperado24 · 12/09/2020 21:17

@Spied

During Covid- no. Any other time id think 16yo was fine.
During Covid?

You and your family are never going to the cinema ever again then

ineedaholidaynow · 12/09/2020 21:18

I assume the group should be SD from each other as not the same household

MomToTwoBabas · 12/09/2020 21:20

She's 16 couldn't she move out at that age. I had at 17and was working full time taking buses a day. Ridiculous she can't even each a film alone. Does she have SEN?

roadsurvey · 12/09/2020 21:20

A friend? Yes. More than that? No. But I'm in Scotland.

roadsurvey · 12/09/2020 21:21

Obviously this is a Covid related question.

Frenchfancy · 12/09/2020 21:27

Why obviously. People ask all sorts of strange things about their teens on MN. If the OP has stated that she was worried about Covid then it would have been clear.
