Anyone know what this is? Possibly crafting related?

Sorting through bags of fabric, felt, wool, trimmings etc to help someone house clear and came across this little item. We've no idea what it is and I immediately thought "ask MN".

It's a bobbin winder

SWnewstart · 12/09/2020 17:00

Sorry but I'm none the wiser - I know about bobbins on a sewing machine for getting the thread on to a spool thing (I think) so could you please explain a bit more please!

Sorry cross posted Herdwick! Having read your link, still don't understand exactly what you do with it. Nevermind, it's not going to keep me awake at night. But would it go in the knitting or sewing pile of stuff we are sorting?

Embroidery/cross stitch pile Grin Some people wind skeins of embroidery silk onto card or plastic bobbins.

Ah, another pile needed then. Thanks (we do actually have quite a few of those long thin skeins of embroidery thread, so glad it has found a home).

You might well find a shallow plastic box, with lots of little sections. The idea is you can wind the thread onto cardboard bobbins, put them all in the box and see the colours without them tangling.
