Question about asbestos

I live in a housing association property. When I moved in I was told the cupboards had asbestos in the ceiling part. I want to convert the hallway cupboard into a closet for the dcs clothes but I've just looked inside and seen that the asbestos is cracked and looks like something has leaked onto it. Is it very dangerous? I also have asbestos in my bedroom cupboard

Isn’t the housing association required to safely remove it?

Only if its dangerous. That sticker apparently means it's 'safe'

I've been here 4 years now and I don't think it was cracked when we first moved in although I'm not 100% sure.

If you tell the HA they should come out and check it again before you start.

Cracks do appear over time, especially when there's been long dry or wet spells, so it's possible they hadn't appeared when it was last assessed (annually?).

There's asbestos all over the place in lots of buildings. In our last assessment for work we were just told to ensure its kept painted and don't pierce, drill or meddle with it. It was in the floor tiles, ceiling, roof tiles, randomly over the door etc. The building is only around 25 years old.

Or it could be the paint that has cracked rather than the ceiling board itself. Either was get the HA to check it first.
