A (pretty trivial) question for people who live work in London

If you used to grab a sandwich, or something, from pret(or wherever) on your way home/to the pub after work, what do you do now? They all seem to be shut by mid afternoon now.

Lots of the independent places are still open at that time

ComtesseDeSpair · 11/09/2020 14:50

Where abouts are you? I live in Shoreditch, office in Canary Wharf and pretty much everywhere seems to be open more or less normal times with the exception of some smaller coffee shops. I got Wasabi sushi after work on Monday and a sandwich from Pret on Wednesday, both around 6pm.

Buy it earlier or go to M&S.

Ghostlyglow · 11/09/2020 14:59

@ComtesseDeSpair actually, genuinely, asking for a friend Grin. They'll be in Fitzrovia area mostly and Islington. Best I could come up with was places in stations - Kings cross/St Pancras, but they didn't seem keen on that idea Smile

There is a Leon and a Subway towards the top end of Tottenham Court Road which are definitely open late; also an M&S if it’s just a sandwich or something they want to grab.

Islington they’ll be able to take their pick, loads of choice on upper street, including again Waitrose and M&S for sandwiches if necessary.

ComtesseDeSpair · 11/09/2020 15:09

I’m not a mad sandwich fiend to know all this btw! My job means I often have to stop somewhere between places I travel and get my laptop out or make a phone call so I’m always in the lookout for where I can grab a quick coffee.

BarbaraofSeville · 11/09/2020 15:18

There's loads of lovely food places in Kings Cross and St Pancras. It's hardly a hardship to eat there. Leon, Wasabi and M&S are what I can think of off the top of my head, but otherwise there's probably loads more.

Ghostlyglow · 11/09/2020 15:23

Ha ha @ComtesseDeSpair thanks. They're in a similar position. We were just chatting and they were there a couple of weeks ago and got a bit caught out on their way to meet someone because loads of places were shut early evening. They ended up eating crisps in the pub Grin(which I wouldn't see as too bad a thing, but anyway)

Kings Cross has loads of places and a gigantic Waitrose that won’t be short of sandwiches.

JingsMahBucket · 11/09/2020 15:45

At the actual Highbury & Islington stop there's a Little Waitrose across the street. At the Angel stop there's one off a side street.

Supermarket?
