Give DS a middle name...

My DS2 doesn't have a middle name. We simply couldn't agree on one. DS1 has the same middle name as DP. One was suggested by MIL when I was pregnant and I hated it.

He's now 5 and he's come across the same name suggested by MIL. Whether she's spent every moment talking to him about that particular name or not, I've decided I love it and it suits him perfectly. DP also wanted the same middle name for DS2.

I think it would be lovely if I could make it official and give them all copies showing so for Christmas. They wouldn't expect it at all.

My problem is that DP has PR.

Is there any way I can do this without him finding out? The forms I've looked at require his signature. I don't want to do it 'illegally' but at the same time it would be a brilliant surprise.

Is it necessary? Its a bit late if DS is 5. If you don’t have PR you can’t do it secretly Hmm

There is no way to change a child's name without consent from everyone with PR.

@Nomnomarrgh 100% not necessary but he loves the name and I've always been funny about him not having a middle one. We just couldn't decide at the time. I only found out I was pregnant when I was 7 months so we had other stuff to worry about at the time.

I suppose my only option is to tell DP I agree and surprise MIL with it.

Can't help with the PR issue but I think it sounds like a lovely idea and nice surprise. Hope you can work something out.
