...just that really. I’m currently using the Bold lavender liquid & the Fairy - snuggly soft fabric conditioner. I do love a fabric conditioner.

@dementedpixie

Liquids contain optical brighteners but they arent bleaches. Bleaches arent stable in liquid formulations. Bleaches remove colour. Optical brighteners use the process of fluorescence to trick your eyes into believing your clothes are whiter and brighter than they actually are.
But if I find something without optical brighteners the colour stays in my washing, (when I can find one without them). Anything with optical brighteners makes them fade after a few washes.

They stay on the washing though and don't wash out.

It is a struggle to find anything that doesn't contain them and is free of perfumes, even natural irritants like geraniol and limonene which are pretty bad if you have allergies. Linalool is foul, toxic and really has no place in anything.

Aldi non bio. I use white vinegar as a fabric softner for towels, bedding etc. It keeps towels soft but no impact on the environment. Also kills any odours in clothes.

nildesparandum · 10/09/2020 23:05

Any kind of powder detergent for non woollens. I use liquid wool wash for wools and declares, the Lakeland lavender one is gorgeous.I always put laundry disinfectant when doing towels and tea towels.
I have stopped using fabric conditioner as IMO it weakens the fabric after prolonged use, and also wrecks the washing machine judging by the black slimey gunk that builds up in the drawer.I have never used it since I got my lovely new Miele washer it would be sacrilege to mess that up.

A powder, anything on offer.

I alternate each wash with fairy softner or distilled white vinegar.

LivingMyBestLifeNOT · 10/09/2020 23:09

Lenor sea minerals is the best!

LavenderWashes · 10/09/2020 23:09

Daz powder, ariel gel and Lavender lenor. My washing smells amazing and is always commented on. It's just so 'fresh' smelling. Nothing sweet or florally, just smells very clean and yummy. I also add a capful of lavender zoflora in with my conditioner. It keeps clothes freshest for the longest

Thistles24 · 10/09/2020 23:21

I started using Evover after learning that most you buy in supermarket are made from animal fats. It’s more effective that Lenor and comfort IMO, and plant based.

mrwalkensir · 10/09/2020 23:29

ecoballs - can do a full load on a quick wash. No need for conditioner. Saves water and electricity. It all comes out smelling of nothing...

PickAChew · 10/09/2020 23:42

Daz powder. Method liquid on more delicate items. Ecover delicates on the very delicate stuff.

No fabric conditioner - I tumble dry about 75% of stuff and we have soft water. I add a little white vinegar to the rinse of stuff that hangs to dry. (I'm not against fabric conditioner - i did use small doses of unscented stuff when we lived in a very hard water area but we have fairly sensitive skin so don't use stuff we don't need.)

Only ever use fairy non bio as I hate strong smelling ones that linger long after the wash

Claricethecat45 · 11/09/2020 00:18

Fairy Non Bio and Method Coconut (+something?) conditioner

After a lot of fanning around over the years with Persil and Comfort (blue)

No more rashes things and a nice whiff that stays around

Shopaholic100 · 11/09/2020 00:39

Ariel liquid and Yellow comfort

TinkersTailor · 11/09/2020 00:53

Currently my favourite combo is Surf Wild Thing, with the 'Fresh' Lenor Unstoppables and Rose Wonderland Lenor.

Comfort - Intense Sky
Comfort Perfume Deluxe - Aqua Bloom
Lenor - Exotic Bloom
Lenor Parfum Des Secrets - Dazzle
Comfort - Pure
And, now it's autumn, Comfort Frosted Pine and Apple

These are just some of the scents I use at the moment. All smell amazing!

TinkersTailor · 11/09/2020 00:58

Sorry, posted too soon.

It does depend on what I'm washing though. Bedding I want to smell strongly and feel a certain way (or else I can't sleep), so I use the first combo with 2 cups of beads.

I also order a lot of the Spanish and American (Downy is incredible) laundry products and they all smell divine too (Nenuco in particular, I've been using it for years and the smell is amazing) but can come at a cost.
I use the Spanish products on DDs clothes and they make them super soft. Especially uniform.

The fragrance beads really make the difference too but some say they're too strong.

I sound obsessed (I am a bit..)

DramaAlpaca · 11/09/2020 01:04

I use Aldi bio tablets. Cheap as chips, not strongly scented and does the job as well or better than a big brand.

I don't use fabric conditioner. I hate strong scents and it's an unnecessary extra. At least it is in a soft water area like mine.

EasilyDeleted · 11/09/2020 06:33

I never use FC and our water is as hard as it gets. I can't bear fragranced laundry, makes me feel sick.

User45 · 11/09/2020 07:34

Sainsbury's own brand powder - always comes out top in reviews. Really is no point in buying branded stuff it's just marketing.

Don't use fabric conditioner. It ruins your machine and is a complete gimmick! And I say this living in a very hard water area. The only think it makes a difference to us towels and you shouldn't use fabric conditioner on towels anyway!

ExclamationPerfume · 11/09/2020 07:42

Persil bio powder and either the white, yellow or blue comfort. The yellow is the nicest but I can't always find it in the shops.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 11/09/2020 07:46

Don’t use conditioner any more after reading how it gums up the machine with slimy build up.
Ditto pods, which I used to use.

Now it’s any powder in a cardboard carton (no plastic), a lot less than I’d have used once, directly into the drum, and soda crystals in the drawer.

Laundry is not noticeably different at all.

AlwaysLatte · 11/09/2020 07:55

Method liquid laundry and fabric conditioner. The pink freesia is lovely!

AlwaysLatte · 11/09/2020 07:57

Since I stopped using softener, I haven't noticed a difference other than in towels which are pleasantly rougher and more absorbent.
I've stopped using softener on towels and tea towels too (though I do use it on everything else). They're so satisfyingly absorbent and exfoliating, especially when they've been line-dried!

EasilyDeleted · 11/09/2020 08:00

Yes, I like the plastic free aspect of using powder and no FC. Also that the detergent drawer stays spotless.

Fluffycloudland77 · 11/09/2020 08:02

Costco Kirkland. It shits all over other detergents.

I don’t use the big brands as they still test on animals.
