How do I add a contact to the favourites list on Android phone?

I have googled and googled and tried everything.

I have no yellow star that appears?

I have gone to 'contacts' through settings.

I have tried and failed everywhere.

I want to set my phonr (Samsung) to Do not disturb but enable the School to ring if they need me.

Thank you Confused

Have you tried your contacts list and opened up the contact?

Is it a Samsung or a different android? On Samsung it should look like this when you open the contact up

Thank you, I have no star there, just a number 1 instead, it is saved to the SIM 1, maybe I need to save the numbers elsewhere?

OK... I think that means it is saved on your sim, rather than the phone. Can you try moving it over and see if that makes any difference?

Thanks again,

I deleted the School the re added it to contacts, under phone rather than SIM 1, the star is now there.

I saved all my numbers to the SIM in case I lose my phone, Im really shite at this.

Surely I don't have to delete everyone and re add them? Sad

I've just created a new contact in my android 9 phone, and attached a screenshot.

Do you see the grey star in the top right of the screen? If I click that, it sets that number as a favourite.

Then when I set up Do Not Disturb (I go to Settings, then Sound options, then click the Do Not Disturb option. Under 'Exceptions' in the next menu, I can choose to allow calls from 'Started Contacts'.

Does that help at all? The menus may differ a bit if you have a different version of Android, but I recall the process being very similar when I had an Android 7 phone.

I save all my contacts to google, so if the phone is lost all the contacts are saved there. You can have email addresses, postal addresses, DoBs etc and they all keep to contact which you can do to sim. If you dont use google, then it should still work with whichever email acct you use.

Ah, missed your update. If you need to Star a contact you should be able to do it by clicking the edit button at the bottom (the little pencil icon). No idea if the contacts being saved on the SIM or the phone makes any difference - all mine are saved on my SIM and they transferred over to my newest phone still as Starred Contacts without me having to do anything.

You should be able to copy them 😀

What Hunter said. If you go into contacts, then settings there should be an option to import contacts from sim to phone.
