I am fist pumping at the thought of a legit excuse to not have a massive extended family knackering Christmas.

Yep. Also escaping a get together with my in-laws.

Campervan69 · 09/09/2020 20:18

Yes. I hate Christmas 🎄. Plus my lovely mother in law who loved Christmas died in March so it won't be the same anyway. Am hoping we might be able to go away instead.

nosswith · 09/09/2020 20:20

I doubt if you are alone.

Christmas Day is three of us together so will not change for me.

Yep I'm leaning towards "Oh how sad, what a shame, I'll miss seeing everyone on Christmas Day" then booking a week in the canaries if flights are open.

I'm hoping it will just be me, dh and the kids. Never had one with just us before. Don't really want mil coming up on public transport but it's a 9hr round trip to pick her up. Hoping she'll go to sil instead this year.

Yes me too! [waves]

PaternosterLoft · 09/09/2020 20:28

There's 6 of us so I wont be able to cater for anyone Grin However my sibling is single and I imagine is going to struggle.

Reallybadidea · 09/09/2020 20:31

I've selflessly volunteered to be on call for Xmas day AND Boxing day this year. Now it seems MIL won't be allowed to visit under current rules so it will roll forward to next year instead Angry

Aquamarine1029 · 09/09/2020 20:31

Personally, I want to pretend Christmas doesn't even exist this year. I have no desire to decorate, etc, etc. This year can do one as far as I'm concerned.

PeaceAndHarmoneeee · 09/09/2020 20:32

This could be the silver lining in my corona cloud Smile- no in laws or BIL for xmas day as we are already 4 and they either will only want to come as a package of 3 or not at all.

They will insist they can all come and it's ok to have a gathering of 7 but I will let DP have that conversation....

YgritteSnow · 09/09/2020 20:34

Not just Christmas either. I love being able to sigh sadly and turn down family get togethers on the grounds of Covid Smile

Honeyroar · 09/09/2020 20:37

Yes.
I’ve always been able to use my job as an excuse previously (I often worked away Xmas) but now have a new job that gives me Xmas off.

Lotsalotsagiggles · 09/09/2020 20:44

We've booked to go to Gran Canaria just us three, flights have been up for ages so book quick!

whattodo2019 · 09/09/2020 20:44

YES!!!! Yoppeee

thecatsthecats · 09/09/2020 20:45

It's our turn at the in laws, so I'm in two minds - I'm hoping the rules will allow us to go to ILs, so next year with my parents isn't affected.

But on the whole I'm chuffed - it will make ILs Christmas more like my family's Grin

JenniferSantoro · 09/09/2020 21:00

Yay! I’m so excited to not be able to see certain members of my family, or more specifically their ridiculous girlfriend.

GlowStickWoman · 09/09/2020 21:11

You are not alone! 🎉

Kermitsbiggestfan · 09/09/2020 21:46

I'm going to get my decorating done. Yeehah!

Gilead · 09/09/2020 22:08

If we can’t travel, I’ll be on my own, I love Christmas and usually do all the cooking etc. I will be sad.

Honeyroar · 09/09/2020 22:10

Although the “big on Xmas” side of our family aren’t doing much observation of Covid restrictions anyway, so they’ll probably still make a fuss.

Ginfordinner · 09/09/2020 22:10

Same here. I would love to have local family to spend Christmas with.

Cinderellashoes · 09/09/2020 22:11

Not just Christmas for me! One thing I’ve learned during this pandemic is to be more picky with who I spend my time with!

maddy68 · 09/09/2020 22:12

No I love a big family Christmas we host for around 12-15 every year and I really enjoy it ;)

Ranunculi · 09/09/2020 22:13

Over the moon. I haven’t seen my in-laws since last Feb and I’m thoroughly enjoying having an excuse not to see them until next year.
