Recovery time after ankle screws removed

Hi I was wondering if anyone has had ankle screws taken out and what was their recovery like?
I'm going to be getting ankle screws and possibly a leg plate taken out on Friday. And I'm curious about recovery. How quickly could you walk unaided? I've been in a cast then airboot for the last 4 months and practically housebound and I'm sick of it. Anyone got any stories to share?

Bumping for you

Ds had pins through his leg in a fixator, so not quite the same thing, but when they took them out they put him in either a cast or a boot (is it bad I can't remember!) and it was only around 4 weeks or so before he was totally free. Had been in the fixator nearly a year.

Thanks. I'm just sick of the boot. I want to be free! I can't imagine a year of it how did he cope?

Well, the good news is they will only take the screws and plate out if your bone has already healed well enough.
The bad news is that you may well have to carry on with a boot, depending on your level of healing.
Frustrating for you, but bear in mind they want to protect the work that they have done and make sure you end up with a usable limb at the end of it!

Not long only about a week I think. I had staples originally then after they took the plate and screws out I had stitches. I remember driving to the GP surgery to have them taken out (only about a mile). It was more than a year later after the original break though as I was pregnant when I broke it and then obviously didn't want another op with a newborn to look after either
