Using a fake name in Starbucks etc... anyone else do this?

I went out with friends today and we grabbed a takeaway coffee and brunch from a local cafe. They needed a name for the order so I gave mine. As I walked away I noticed it felt weird cos normally I give a fake name in this sort of situation, if I’m alone. But as I didn’t want to appear a weirdo in front of my friends I didn’t on this occasion. My fake name is always the same one and is in part because I don’t like my real name and feel this one fits me better. It also became a habit when people repeatedly misheard the name I was giving, so would always cause confusion when calling out this wrong name when my order was ready. My real name is not hard or unusual but somehow this problem has never arisen with my fake name.
So I’m curious, does anyone else do this or am I just a weirdo? 😆

Starbucks often give me a false name. I didn't know my name could be twisted so much. DD2 (12) always gives the name Jeff for her got chocolate and they never get it wrong.

My son just walked in from his job as a barista at Starbucks. I had him read this thread.

He's just shaken his head and groaned. He said, "Please just let me do my job. Thank you."

I suppose he's had a bit of a hard day.

Thinking I fancy using Goldie (as I alway shorted mine anyway)

My local Starbucks staff know my real name as I had to show ID to get NHS discount. They're always friendly anyway & a couple of them go to my gym. So I'd feel daft giving them a false name.
Other coffee shops don't ask for my name.

I always say “Stephen” and if they look at me curiously, I say “with a ph”.

I've always just used Bob. But after reading this I'm going to be more adventurous.
Dont use my real name cos its apparently hugely difficult to spell/say/pronounce.
6 letters shouldn't be this hard. Yeah female here too.

Yep. My Starbucks name, and my takeaway ordering name, is Jane.

My actual name causes so much difficulty that it’s just easier to be Jane.

My name isn’t that unusual (not mega common but I have met 3 or 4 others over the years) but sooooooooo many people asked me to repeat it, and repeat it, I gave up on it years ago.

I often go for coffee with a friend called Bob, and Starbucks know him as Cyril.

I use my cat's name.

Always use a fake name. My is too long, always spelled wrong or mispronounced. I just use my mothers name instead

I don’t think you are a weirdo to use a fake name and I wouldn’t think you were weird to use your real name. I find it weird that you are giving it any thought and real weird that you’ve bothered doing a thread about it.

I concede it’s also a bit weird that I’ve bother to post 🤣

Apparently, there's a comedian that gives the name of made up drinks. He took it one step further after they discontinued a drink and the customer in front of him complained.

I would never give my mobile number, I only give it to people I trust. Don't have a landlie plugged in, would give them my old number from years ago.

I went to a cafe 1 yesterday and they wanted my name and phone number on my receipt for their records ( unless they just fancied me? But I very much doubt that!)

Father Christmas Grottos in 2020: Does anyone know where they are having Santa Grottos in Manchester this year during this pandemic. We have 9 month old twins and don’t want them to miss out on their 1st visit to see Father Christmas. I hear that I may have to book, due to limited capacity and social distancing.

I hate coffee but I want to start ordering at Starbucks just so I can play. I'm surprised I remember my real name, I always make something up.

I have a Muslim friend I've travelled with, I've booked her hotel rooms as Reverend too, she's brilliant, she just fronts it out, lol
