What food brands do you not compromise on

Light-hearted

I really don't think we are a good brand snob family.

We use supermarket own baked beans / ketchup / bread butter etc where ever cheaper.

However I do like my instant coffee and squash to be our normal brands.
This morning my daughter refused her cereal as it tasted horrible and I had swapped our crunchy nut to Tesco branded and I agreed with her I could really taste the difference which I was surprised about.

What items do you not compromise on ?

Doritos
Walkers crisps
Real monster munch
McCoy’s crisps

Actually just about any crisp is only right from the ‘proper’ brand

ncd5785 · 09/09/2020 15:27

Also mcvities chocolate digestives and fairy liquid

I've tried lots of own brand products and I prefer some or buy them because there's no difference, but the branded products I stick with are because I've concluded I like them a lot more

DoubleHelix79 · 09/09/2020 15:29

Lindt chocolate.

goingtotown · 09/09/2020 15:32

Hellman’s Mayo the light one
Nespresso Pods
Ciro Tinned Tomatoes
De Decco Pasta
Hayward’s Pickles
Elnett Hairspray
Weetabix
McCaine Gastro Chips

timtam23 · 09/09/2020 15:34

Birds Eye frozen peas
Branston baked beans
Yorkshire tea

H1978 · 09/09/2020 15:35

Anything I use to wash clothes has to be branded, the own brand stuff never smell strong enough.
Also toiletries like shampoo and shower gels.

Dh will only have twinnings teabags.
Anything else I’m pretty open too but always buy a branded item if it’s on offer.

MysweetAudrina · 09/09/2020 15:36

Coke Zero

Kellogg's cereal

Nutella

Lyons tea bags

Heinz beans

Hellman's Mayo

Heinz ketchup

Dairygold spread

Kerrygold butter

Tayto cheese and onion

Bold tabs

Branded softener ( whichever is on offer)

Fairy dishwasher tabs

Soft drinks

I don't buy any own brands, i try to stock up on our favourite brands when they are on special instead. We have tried lots over the last few years and really didn't like any of them. I would rather cut back on other things and buy the food we like.

Kaiserin · 09/09/2020 15:43

Ketchup (has to be Heinz!)
Nutella

WhereYouLeftIt · 09/09/2020 15:44

Hellman's mayonnaise, and it can't be their reduced-fat version either.

Tunnock's caramel wafers.

Schweppe's lemonade.

purpleleotard · 09/09/2020 15:46

Gordons

Spiderbaby8 · 09/09/2020 15:48

pepsi max and pg tips, most other things not bothered about.

Inthebackoftheimpala · 09/09/2020 15:51

Diet coke, Bewleys Breakfast tea and Lurpak

Vinorosso74 · 09/09/2020 15:51

Heinz ketchup and baked beans.
Fairy washing up liquid.
Pip n Nut peanut butter (always keep my eye out for offers)
Coca Cola Zero on the odd occasions I buy it.

napody · 09/09/2020 15:52

Sacla pesto. Own brand ones taste of nothing.

chunkyrun · 09/09/2020 15:55

Had to be method cleaner

Darklane · 09/09/2020 16:03

Branston baked beans, not as sweet as Heinz
Nescafé Gold Espresso coffee
Typhoo tea ( Yorkshire tea at a push if Typhoo not available)
Rose’s Lime Juice
Dark chocolate Hobnobs
Walkers crisps

lazylinguist · 09/09/2020 16:03

Marmite
Peanut butter (Proper Nutty - makes all the others taste crappy by comparison!)
Hellmans mayonnaise (the proper full fat one, I hate the light one)
Loose leaf tea from my local independent tea seller

Anything else I buy Aldi own brand (and quite often prefer it).

redeyetonowheregood · 09/09/2020 16:05

Waitrose baked beans and Waitrose decaf tea bags.

mogloveseggs · 09/09/2020 16:05

Hellman's Mayo
Heinz ketchup or Ikea ketchup if we've been there
Robinson's orange squash
Vimto
Coco Cola (that's me being fussy)

happymummy12345 · 09/09/2020 16:06

Ketchup and coke.

Poppyismyfavourite · 09/09/2020 16:09

Yorkshire tea
HP sauce

everything else the Aldi/morrisons/tesco version is pretty good.

Not food but we have to buy tesco cat litter - got the morrisons one once and all our cat's fur on her bum fell out!! She obviously has a sensitive bum...

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/09/2020 16:13

Also Heinz and Kelloggs. Would have been Lurpak till fairly recently but I found out that Waitrose do an amazing own-brand salted butter. Yorkshire Tea - weirdly I'm fussier about tea than coffee, even though I drink far more coffee. Spice Tailor curry sauces and naan bread. Thai Taste thai curry pastes. More stuff than I'd realised, actually!

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/09/2020 16:14

Oh yeah, and Hellman's mayo!

Puffinhead · 09/09/2020 16:19

Yorkshire Tea
Branston baked beans
Marmite
Weetabix

For everything else I’ll happily buy supermarket brands and save some pennies.
