What food brands do you not compromise on

Light-hearted

I really don't think we are a good brand snob family.

We use supermarket own baked beans / ketchup / bread butter etc where ever cheaper.

However I do like my instant coffee and squash to be our normal brands.
This morning my daughter refused her cereal as it tasted horrible and I had swapped our crunchy nut to Tesco branded and I agreed with her I could really taste the difference which I was surprised about.

What items do you not compromise on ?

Tea, Coffee, Coke, Heinz Beans, Fairy liquid, Helmans Mayo.. oh and lurpak

DH is a Warburtons fanatic but I personally think Tesco toastie loaf is better!

Lazysundayafternoons · 09/09/2020 14:49

I think tea bags are the only thing I buy branded. I dont drink tea but always buy branded anyway for dp and guests. Dp has never asked for them to be branded so I dont actually know why I even do that.

I'm a big coffee drinker but will drink any supermarket brand.

Other than that I buy Pampers nappies and fairy liquid tabs. (I know they arent food but tea and coffee arent food either and others mentioned them Grin)

Lazysundayafternoons · 09/09/2020 14:50

Bread aswell actually, I always buy branded bread!

Lurpak
McVities or Hovis digestive biscuits
My DP will buy the cheapest of everything apart from Sunpat

bluebluezoo · 09/09/2020 15:03

I don’t compromise on food. We don’t drink, don’t smoke so food is our “luxury”.

That’s not to say I won’t buy own brand or cheaper stuff, lots is equally good or better. But if we find a certain brand is “best”, like heinz ketchup or clipper tea/coffee/hot chocolate, that’s what I buy.

Micah · 09/09/2020 15:05

Sunpat is a relatively cheap version of PB. We only by brands that don’t contain palm oil, so I guess we don’t compromise there. Twice the price, sunpat would be the cheaper option!!

SweetPetrichor · 09/09/2020 15:07

Twinnings Tea,, Hellman’s Mayo, rooster potatoes, birds eye peas, John West no drain tuna, Knorr stock, bistro best gravy, napolena tinned toms and beans...probably loads more I can’t bring to mind. I’m a creature of habit and I know what I like!

Washinglinewench29 · 09/09/2020 15:08

Teabags, would have previously agreed with lurpak but aldi's norpak grew on me

bugaboo218 · 09/09/2020 15:09

We buy our coffee beans from a Portuguese cafe down the roast. It's amazing.

Heinz beans, I like own brand but the snack pots are a better portion so I get those.

Cheerios, it's all DP has for breakfast and he doesn't like the own brand so we stick with it.

Yorkshire Tea - obvious reasons.

Hellman's - they don't do a vegan mayo own brand yet sadly.

That's pretty much it tbh, we eat lots of other beans but they're the same no matter the brand, lots of veg which is obvs own brand. I can't really think of what else we eat but most of it's just generic.

CorianderLord · 09/09/2020 15:14

Oh yes marmite and Sun Pat peanut butter.

CorianderLord · 09/09/2020 15:15

Although now I've read that Sun Pat has hidden palm oil in their E471 so that's that gone. Balls.

McAvennie · 09/09/2020 15:19

Yorkshire Tea
Domestos bleach

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 09/09/2020 15:19

7up
Kellogg's cornflakes
Kenco coffee
Laundry detergent
Fairy washing up liquid

Everything else is Aldi

Whatisthisfuckery · 09/09/2020 15:20

Alpen and Fairy, that’s about all really.

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 09/09/2020 15:21

I just remembered one more.
The black harpic toilet cleaner.

lastqueenofscotland · 09/09/2020 15:22

Heinz Baked beans

lastqueenofscotland · 09/09/2020 15:22

Oh and proper Coca Cola coke

ncd5785 · 09/09/2020 15:24

Coca Cola
Heinz beans and tomato ketchup (have tried others but I don't like them as much)
Lurpak
Hellman's mayonnaise (I prefer it by a long way)
Kellogg's cornflakes
Warbutons crumpets

missrks · 09/09/2020 15:25
