SuperKing bed

I am thinking about buying a super king bed , preferably with ottoman base and perhaps zip and link mattresses.
The current mattress we have gets quite hot - it is wool and cashmere mix and very comfortable but I can feel my partner moving. He is very twitchy and my sleep quality is awful. We stayed somewhere recently with two mattresses on a super king base and I have never slept better. The choice is bewildering online - anyone got any recommendations?
It doesn't have to be an ottoman base, base I'm tired of messy storage boxes under the bed and we are short on space.

I have a superking zip and link on a divan base and it is the best bed I have ever had, but we went to a local bed factory where they make their own mattresses, told them what we wanted, what are issues were (Dh too hot) and they made it for us. That was 7 years ago and cost £1k for the whole bed.

I have heard really good thing about John and Ryan, they are based in Manchester, I did a lot of research about mattresses and these chaps actually cut open a £3k mattress to see exactly what was inside it and why it cost so much.

They offer a 100% money back guarantee, they are incredibly knowledgeable, so I would contact them and see what they recommend. They are expensive though.

I recently ordered from Bensons and the aftercare service and general customers services were shocking... avoid if possible!

Meant to add, my children have side lift ottoman beds, they are great for storage, winter/summer duvets, clothes, bedding. Everything goes into vacuum bags just because some dust does get in there, again we went local. We live in a mattress making area. Grin

Zip and link is fab. We also have Scandi-style separate duvets which also makes a difference.

I have zip and link super king size. We had ours one half firm the other half medium. It’s great and super comfy. Just can’t remember where we bought it from.

Were you after recommendations for bed frame as well? We have an "island" (also called "platform" I think?) style king bed frame which is great because it takes up the same amount of room as our old double. I wish we'd gone for super king, we thought it wouldn't fit but I think it would have!

I've had a look at johnryan and it looks good. Can I ask where you bought your divan from the local bed factory?

We have a super king bed, it’s amazing. We have a foam mattress (not memory foam). I can’t remember if it was simba or Casper.. but it’s one of those online ones that come rolled up in a box.

It is lovely and cool and firm, and it really absorbs sound and movement.. so my side doesn’t move when DH turns over.. not like a sprung mattress.

WatershipDown7 · 10/09/2020 16:31

Thanks, I've read mixed reviews on the mattresses in a box. I would be interested to know if it was a Simba or Casper.

@WatershipDown7 sorry for the late reply. I’ve just checked and mine is Casper

We're looking at super king beds, and have been really impressed with a Harrison Spinks mattress. It feels very supportive and comfortable - its solidly built but not solid IYKWIM.

I'm arguing for a divan base, DH is arguing for a sleigh bed, but at least we have agreed on a mattress!

pinkbalconyrailing · 12/09/2020 16:45

we have one with separate matresses (not zip linked)
it's bliss, I can't feel dh moving on his side at all. we have separate duvets as well.
all from ikea.

Undies1990 · 12/09/2020 16:50

We have a super king bed with an Ergoflex mattress. Super comfy and you can't feel the other person moving around. I think they have a sale of on at the moment too.

feesh · 12/09/2020 16:51

We bought ours direct from the Hypnos showroom and it’s heavenly. It actually ruins holidays because no bed ever compares!

purplepingu · 12/09/2020 16:54

We got our superking from Time2Sleep. The mattress is a pillow top and you can't feel each other moving when you're both in it. Ended up spending double on the mattress that we did on the base but it's worth every penny!

AHippoNamedBooBooButt · 12/09/2020 16:54

We have a superking and tbh i hate it and can't wait to get a smaller bed (we currently co-sleep with ds4 so need a big bed). It's just such a faff making the bed and putting the duvet cover on because its just sooo big. And bedding is so much more expensive and limited. Just things to bear in mind

Whoops- Time4Sleep 🙈
WatershipDown7 · 12/09/2020 17:30

@purplepingu

What is the name of the mattress please? I’ve been looking on that website too.

I think it's this one.

We went to the showroom and tried them all, it just doesn't have any movement at all and is super comfy.

Thank you!
