Neighbour's marijuana use driving me mad

Our house stinks.

They're 2 doors down and there are kids in the houses both sides of them, and in our house. Upstairs is so bad I've had to close up the kids windows, but it's very stuffy tonight so I'd prefer open windows for air...

Do I knock on the door and ask him to stop his illegal activity?

Do I post a note explaining it's affecting us all and please stop before I report to the police?

Or do I just report to the police as I would with any other illegal activity?

I feel like going to the police is a bit extreme, but then, how much of a right do I have to judge when something is illegal enough to bother reporting..? And if I ask and it doesn't stop then he'll know it's timid, small me that reports him eventually.

How can I get him to stop?!

Don't do notes, talk to them, or go to the Police.

It's not illegal to use, its only illegal to possess. The police are not going to get a warrant and kick their door in because they smoke pot.

Are they smoking inside or out? You need to talk to them. I did when my neighbour's son was smoking indoors and it was seeping through my walls. My spare room stank like he'd being sparking up in there, which was great when my 5yo nephew was going to be sleeping in there a few hours later. Gah.

He's definitely in the garden when smoking. I can see the back of his head, always in the same chair everytime the smell starts wafting through the windows. Nobody else in their gardens at that time (my husband laughed at me for hanging out of various windows over several weeks whilst I narrowed it down to definitely this garden and this one guy).

I'm not expecting the police to kick their door in - though I'm curious as to how one manages to use marijuana without possessing marijuana . I just want it to stop, because as you say, gah. It's just unpleasant for the rest of us. (Though my 7 year old asked me today "what is that lovely smell?"... )

I'm in exactly the same boat. We have a 2 year old and I'm due our 2nd baby next month. I hate that our home has to be airless in the evening cos otherwise the cannabis stinking overwhelming.
