This is the second jab, my toddler had the first a few weeks ago. I'd really like to use Emla cream ahead of time this time round but it needs to be put on an hour prior to the injection - will they use the same site (top of thigh) as last time? Or the other leg or an arm? If I put it on the other leg for example will they be able to just inject where I show them or do I need to make sure it's on top of a particular muscle?

Also, could the cream disturb the efficacy of the vaccination itself at all?

There is no real point in applying it before an intramuscular injection, it only numbs the skin so is OK for having blood taken but no real use for vaccinations, sorry!

Thanks, that's useful to know but a shame! We did use it before for a blood test and it was great. I did go into Boots in the end and they were all a bit vague about it but did sell it to me and didn't say it would be ineffective
