Composite Doors (thrilling I know!)

MJMG2015 · 08/09/2020 13:46

I need to buy a new front door. The current door and step/frame etc are way beyond 'saving'

I prefer wood doors, but I might be renting it out/selling so composite just makes more sense.

I know about the wood v foam inside them.

I'M not looking for Ruth the cheapest one or a bespoke one, I just want to get a decent one, at a decent price, but I don't know which manufacturer/door to go with.

Pre Covid I found a small company nearby who seem great & they do the 'Endurance Doors' and I wondered if anyone had any thoughts on those or suggestions of other ones that are good.

I know years ago Rock Door were highly thought of, but they seemed to fall out of favour.

TIA

No one?

I know it's nit exactly thrilling, but it's unusual for no one to have an
Opinion. Even if it's only to tell me composure doors are common!🤣

We have a composite door with Uliton locks from West Yorks Windows . We’re very happy with it. Had it about 18 months.

Lightningrain · 08/09/2020 15:08

We got a new one last year from Distinction Doors and we’re really happy with it.

We have composite doors.. I really like them, they look really good and keep the heat in.
We didn’t select a company as such... we found a good joiner, and he ordered the doors from the supplier he uses.

JemimaTiggywinkle · 08/09/2020 15:13

Ours was from distinction doors too

Thanks :). I can't get their brochure to download & they're too far away from me to use them, but do you happen to know what make of door it is? (I'm assuming it wasn't actually made by them?!)

I couldn't afford a composite door. But had a UPVC from Safestyle. It's excellent and glad I didn't spend any more money on composite.

I'm glad you're happy with your door!

UPVC has certainly come a long way in recent years!

For my most recent doors I found a local window and door fitter. I find local tradespeople more likely to be trustworthy because the need to mind their reputation. Previously, when I used a bigger company, they offered a fabulous guarantee then promptly went out of business so the guarantee was useless.

MJMG2015 · 08/09/2020 16:47

@BrokenLink

Thanks.

I'm really hoping people can suggest manufacturers of doors they think are good

Especially if anyone had an opinion on endurance doors.

@MJMG2015, they make their own stuff.

palladiodoorcollection.com/uk/

These doors are excellent.

anxiousstanley · 08/09/2020 17:11

Try Turmacher. They have an offer on at the moment.

MJMG2015 · 08/09/2020 19:08

@BikeRunSki. Oh right. They're too far away, but thanks :)

@emsmum79 & @anxiousstanley

Thank you both, they both look good!

We're going for a solidoor. It'll cost £2k for the door, accessories, frame and window above door.
I saw the doors in the installers showroom and they're excellent quality.
We may move on 3-5 yrs. In my next (hopefully forever home) I'd go aluminium.

twinsufficient · 08/09/2020 19:19

My family company sells Endurance Doors. Very good doors for the price. If you're in the North West of England/North Wales let me know and I can help you with this

H1978 · 08/09/2020 20:36

We had our windows and composite door from Coral Windows in Bradford. They are an excellent company.

CalliopeSings · 08/09/2020 21:33

We've got a solidoor. It's a couple of years old and I'm very happy with it. If you go on their website you can play around with different colours and styles and find a supplier near you.

MJMG2015 · 09/09/2020 09:04

Thank you all 🌷

@KinderWild. Good to know you've seen the Solidoor & rate them. I'll have another look at them.

@twinsufficient That's interesting. Do you think they're 'good' doors - would you have one? Would they? Or do you think it's better to spend more? Thank you for the offer, but unfortunately I'm in the SE.

@H1978 Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I'm in the SE & don't want to complicate things further by getting a door & a fitter separately.

@CalliopeSings. Another vote for Solidor - Good to know you're still happy with it two years on! Thank you

@MJMG2015 Yes I would definitely recommend Endurance doors. I have one on my house!

ihatethecold · 10/09/2020 13:51

I’m also looking for a composite door.
I did a quote online with Solidor and never heard back from them. Disappointing.

modernupvcwindows

I've just had a door from these people. Ordered online and fitted by DP then building control signed it off.

Was easy. Website allows you to play with all the different options and see costs.

Very happy

MJMG2015 · 11/09/2020 13:17

@wantmorenow

Thanks, I'm off to play with their options!!

I do want it fitted by the supplier though. I want the guarantee & I don't have a handy DH unfortunately!!
