Hey oh wise ones of the net.
Im thinking of gettinga tattoo. I have a design I want but my issue is placement. It needs to be discrete, can't be on show. And also as its my 1st time I want the most pain free place!!
What might be a good idea?
Thanks

If you never want it in show then your bum , top of leg , stomach , if you want to show it off ocasonaly very top of arm , ankle, calf.
Of course it depends a lot on the size you want.

As a general rule anywhere close to / on the bone is more painful , so ribs , spine shoulder blade , ankle.
Bum thigh arm stomach etc no so painfull

Please research your artist very csrfully they vary a huge amount. Ask around, don't rely on their own promotions/ sales blurb .
Ask people with tattoos, you will find most people are willing to talk about them and recommend 'their' artist.

I have one on my arse.

From my coccyx to cover a lot of my cheek on one side.

I'd recommend using Emla cream (I think that's how you spell it) before you go in to numb the area. About 30 mins before.

It hurt like mad on the fat but not on the bone. I think it's different for everyone though where hurts and where doesn't.

BlueDream · 07/09/2020 18:20

I'd say thigh if you want it to be less painful. I found stomach way more painful than calf or thigh.

Bananajam · 07/09/2020 19:42

I got my first and only tattoo on my left side/ribs. Nowhere near as painful as I expected and isn't on show unless I choose to show it off. Most people don't know its there.

In b4 comments about how lame/common/tacky/disgusting/etc tattoos are.

I have a few.
Painful ones were feet and inside of arms pinched a bit.
Wrist was a bit sore, but had a newborn who grabbed a lot.
Upper arms were ok. Bit tender on the sunburn....
And I fell asleep during the one on my lower back.

I found the pain to be similar to an epilator.

What clothes do you usually wear?
I am usually in a tee shirt for work, so upper arms are easy to cover.
Or show off in a vest.

Thighs are usually covered unless in short shorts a lot?

Same with back and shoulders.

hip!

I think it all depends on the person and your pain threshold.

I have a big one on my side that caught my ribs - a notoriously painful place - and it didn't bother me.

I have a tiny one on the inside of my wrist and I wanted to die when it was being done.

They basically hurt, if you want it bad enough you'll get it done wherever.

JorisBonson · 07/09/2020 20:27

PS I have zero pain threshold

KindergardenCentre · 07/09/2020 20:50

I have one on the inside of my lower calf, above my ankle. It wasn't nearly as sore as I expected. Felt like a gnawing buzzing while being done and sunburn for 2-3 days after.

LunaNorth · 07/09/2020 20:52

I have four and the only one that really hurt was on my foot.

Crabbo · 07/09/2020 20:55

I think it really depends on what the tattoo is and the size of it - different things suit different areas. Most discreet would be somewhere on the torso I guess. Pain wise as long as you avoid bony bits then you’re good. I’ve had behind my ear, inside my mouth and half sleeve and all places were totally bearable apart from the elbow - awful!

nancybotwinbloom · 07/09/2020 21:06

Inside you mouth? What did that feel like? Was it hard to tattoo?

MulticolourMophead · 07/09/2020 21:21

I've got wrist, tops of arms and back of both shoulders done. I have a high pain threshold, but would say that the one at the top of my right arm hurt the most. The rest were just uncomfortable.

My next tattoo is planned for my lower back, and I think that will be later next year.
