Booking a driving test

Does anyone have any advice?

My DS would have been ready to take his test over the summer, he's got his theory etc, but obviously the ability to book disappeared.

He's off to uni next week.

I gather they've restarted bookings; his instructor has told him to book a test for the latest possible over the Xmas holidays and have 3 lessons beforehand, which sounds sensible.

Trouble is, he was 168,000 in the queue to book this morning.

Do you just hit refresh every 5 minutes for 24 hours, or is it futile?

Last week we were in the website before 8am. With two iPads. If there before 8am you are randomly allocated a place....the website tells you that. One ipad was 72,000 the other was 9000. We got a test after about a 70 min wait.

It's not much wonder the queue are massive if people are doing this.

I was 12000 in the queue and got through about 9.20am. It took me 6 attempts though to book as it kept going back to the first screen. It can't cope with the volume of traffic.

Got slots for my son and daughter mid November at our nearest test centre

MummytoCSJH · 14/09/2020 12:31

There are 207920 in front of me. Think I'm giving up!

CamdenLurker · 14/09/2020 14:43

At 10:45 I had over 217000 in front of me, I managed to book a test in early Jan for DS. Not ideal as wanted November but what are our options?

We also had a fiasco trying to book a theory test after he failed the first one booked back in Feb.

I'm hoping I can keep checking for cancellations over the next few weeks.

Well obviously we left the queue with the 2nd ipad at 8:00am. So don't think we contributed to a massive queue. 200,000 people aren't still in the queue at midday with 2x computers with different queue positions. You'd ditch the higher one.
chickenortheegg · 14/09/2020 16:43

No queue right now!

icecreamconie · 14/09/2020 17:27

well obviously we left the queue with the 2nd ipad at 8:00am.

Not sure why you think that was obvious. You didn't say.

So don't think we contributed to a massive queue.

Well obviously not you alone, others with multiple devices though? It all adds up.

MummytoCSJH · 14/09/2020 19:01

It was 375k that were released. Shows how many people were on multiple devices.

We had 2 computers at the ready yesterday morning and DD's managed to join at 7000 in the queue. It took about an hour to get onto the site to book a test and i was pleasantly surprised that we could book one at our local centre for the beginning of November.

Just need her to pass now as she's been failed 3 times by the same guy at a different centre. Am convinced it's him as she has her own car and has been driving perfectly for over a year. Her instructor couldn't understand it either but i'm not sure it's worth trying to appeal.
