Idiots guide to roblox please

My dd8 wants to play roblox because the kids at school play it.

What is it? What do we play it on? What do you do on it? What do I need to buy? Is it suitable?

I really need an idiots guide. I've goggled it but it went over my head.

It’s basically an animated game where they can build their own character and join games/build worlds/buy pets etc. Its free unless you buy ‘robux’ which is money for the game. You can play it on anything with internet so iPad, phone, pc etc.
It’s very popular and can get addictive so I have to monitor my children’s use and set limits. If you’re concerned it’s best to install it and have a go yourself so you know first hand what it’s like and if you’re happy for dd to use it. I didn’t let mine play it for a long time as I was concerned about strangers talking to them, but I changed the settings so they couldn’t. Ultimately it’s up to you, just be warned it gets tedious Grin

Make sure she has a kids account, ie dont use your date of birth.

It's been my dd savour actually throughout lock down.
I find it very creative and it's helped her reading and spelling! She's always asking how to spell various things.
I like the variety of it too, one minuet she's adopted something and is a mummy the next she's doing a fashion show or building a pent house!

She's been begging for robux for ages and because she did so well working over lock down I relented and gave her £5 worth.

I figured it's the same as buying tat magazine etc.
I would have been in 7th heaven if I had a game like that when younger!

Dd2 has been asking for this. I'm not keen because I understood that other players could interact with you and I dont want strangers being able to talk to dd2. Is there a way that can be shut off?

My DD has this and really enjoys it. She likes the option to build houses and decorate them, she also likes completing tasks to grow her pets up in the game.
I have turned chat off and she’s not able to receive messages as I’d heard horror stories. The option to restrict chat and messages is in settings and then privacy within the game.
She’s also only allowed to be friends in the game with people she actually knows. A girl from her school has over 300 friends on it and her parents don’t check which is terrifying to me.
