Just turned 7 year old DD did for the first time today, which, to be honest I didn’t expect for a few more years!

Around about 6-7. However we’ve made a big thing that we might hate the way someone makes us feel, or hate what they have done, but not hate the person. And also that it is perfectly possible to dislike somebody very temporary even if you still love them totally.

This ends up in huge emotional (funny) outbursts of MUMMY I LOVE YOU BUT I HATE THAT YOU DID THAT AND I DON’T FEEL PART OF THE FAMILY ANY MORE AND I DON’T WANT YOU TO COME INTO MY ROOM AGAIN EVER. Which wasn’t quite the intended consequence but never mind...

The 12-year-old - never. (give it time Grin)
The younger one has said it fairly regularly since the age of 3. Blush

Four sons, all now adults. None of them have ever said that to me.

DS is an adult. He has never told me he hated me. We do argue from time to time but nothing serious. Not yet anyway.

I know I definitely said it to my mum.

Sailingblue · 06/09/2020 07:44

3 possibly even 2. You’ve done quite well to get to 7. Yesterday my 4yo said she didn’t love my husband anymore because he said no to something. She was over it about half an hour later though and is prone to being a bit dramatic.

DS has a few times previously, he's now nearly 10 and seems to be using it several times since going back to school.
I either just ignore it or say 'well that's a shame because I love you'. He then immediately says he loves me too.

beela · 06/09/2020 07:58

I don't think either of mine have yet (9 & 6) but the 9yo likes to tell me I'm 'the worst mum ever' when he's in a temper.

justanotherneighinparadise · 06/09/2020 08:02

4 would you believe! Copying his seven year old brother.

Camomila · 06/09/2020 08:10

Dramatic DS1 says "I'm going to rip you into tiny pieces and eat you!"
He's 4.

I remember being about 4 or 5 and telling my mother I hated her. I don't remember what about but I do specifically remember her saying to me:

"No you don't. You're just really angry with me. So tell me how angry you are."

I feel at that kind of age the nuance of emotion is lost on kids, and you end up with only love and hate
