Help! I've destroyed my stainless steel cooker

Used Mr Muscle oven cleaner and didn't think miuch about it and got it on the stainless steel handles... it seems to have now permanently stained them. DP is furious.

I have tried

  • elbow grease
  • cif cleaner
  • baking soda and dish soap

Is it un-savable? Google brings up nothing as it seems i'm the only idiot in the world who has done this.

What handles?

The oven door handle or the hob buttons?

See if you can replace the handles.

Ouch I can sympathise! I think eBay is your friend here (not an affiliate etc!), see if you can get a replacement one -

What make/model is it?

The bloody door handles... first home and I am just an idiot and didn't realise what stainless steel was like. DP is ok about it now as he wrecked our tv stand before and I didn't give him any grief Grin

We don't have a new kitchen at all so it doesn't really bother me I just want to move on... but he seems really annoyed by it!

It's frustrating because you have to live looking at it. DS1 cleaned the kitchen and thought the satin finish on the oven door was grime and attacked it with a scourer (he's used to commercial kitchens where the steel is highly polished). It won't recover. I've considered looking for a new door, but I think it'll be easier to move!

I've seen tomato sauce and tin foil are good for stainless steel. I'm on the Mrs Hinch tips Facebook group.

If the door handles are covered in like whitish dust it’s aluminium that has oxidised. Run it over with lemon juice once a day for a few days and it will stop it getting worse.

I may have figured this out after putting the oven doors in the dishwasher

If it’s just the knobs you can buy spares. Always read the label.

Mr Muscles tested on animals if you’re concerned by that sort of thing. I know not everyone is.

Lube and a fish slice?

FlamingoAndJohn · 05/09/2020 15:09

Can you attach a picture?
It would be useful to see the stain. I use Koh to clean my oven, and everything else. That might do it.
