Hotel booking question, hotel phone is ringing out...

Had a hotel booking from tonight for 3 nights. Event that the hotel was for was cancelled, but hotel was non refundable so would lose the money regardless.

Was going to go up today for the first 2 nights (couldnt stay 3 because of work on monday but thought might as well use 2 of them) but due to work issues decided not to go tonight but go early tomorrow. Tried to phone the hotel to confirm that we can check in early tomorrow, seeing as the room is already on 'our' time, but phone is ringing out.

Annoyingly long recorded message before any options, tried all departments and they are all ringing out. Messaged on messenger but no reply.

What are the chances that the hotel are going to give our room away when we dont show up tonight? Im worried that im going to show up tomorrow and theyll tell me i can check in till 3, or that my booking doesnt exist any more as i missed the first night. But I've tried my best to let them know the situation, its not my fault that they cant answer a phone surely??

Is it part of a chain?

ScottishStottie · 04/09/2020 21:13

It is part of a chain. They also have an app that ive tried but it doesnt pick up my booking reference number (booked via booking.com so may be different)

Dont know what else to try really

What chain? Look at their booking T&Cs, usually it’ll say something about your booking being surrendered and your first night charged or whatever their policy is.

(Surrendered is not the right word but my Friday night brain is not working...)

If you don’t turn up on the first day the T&C usually say you forfeit the booking. They won’t keep it empty in case you pitch up later.

Is it definitely open? I used to be a front desk manager, if you don't turn up tonight then they will cancel your whole booking and could potentially give your room away. That being said, I'm not sure how busy hotels are at the moment so the liklihood of them selling your room and being full tomorrow night is slim.

Is there ah email address, even a general enquiries one? If you can find one I'd email tonight and then you have a back up of 'well, I did tell' you if there's a problem tomorrow.

You can also email booking.com as a back up, but as I say (twice!) I think hotels are really quiet so you'll be fine and they'll just reinstate your booking.

ScottishStottie · 04/09/2020 21:24

Its definitely open.

But surely when i turn up tomorrow if i have call log evidence of trying to contact them multiple times, then its their problem to deal with (either find me a room or refund) if theyve given it away?

I understand that t&cs will say that room is forfeit but thats on the basis of a no show, ie no contact. But ive tried to contact but theyve not answered.

You'd definitely be better emailing if you can, it's clear 'evidence' of what you were trying to say. I'd also try to get there early before everybody else arrives so they have more options.

I don't think it will be busy though and sure you'll be fine.

ScottishStottie · 04/09/2020 21:34

Ive emailed via booking.com so will hopefuly have some comeback if there are any issues. Tried phoning again there and still no answer.

Doubt the hotel will be full anyway. So it should be fine.

Thought i would update!

Got here at 11am, room had indeed been cancelled due to no show last night but helpful receptionist pulled it back and uncancelled it, and i was able to check in amd get to my room straight away!

Too late, but if the phone wasn't being answered, at least you could have emailed them, or sent message through Booking.
Worst case, you'd have evidence that you had contacted them.

Ah that’s good! Enjoy your nights away, @ScottishStottie Wine
