Should I do anything about this handbag repair?

First world problem alert.

I got a zip replaced on a faux-leather handbag. I went to collect it and thought it was all looking great, paid, but when I got home I realised they've sewn the new zip in the wrong way round, so the zip pull is at the other end to where it used to be.

It never occurred to me to ask them to put the new zip in the same way round as the old one, because it's not something that occured to me wouldn't happen.

I know I could just hold the bag the other way round, but firstly the brand label is only on one side so it'd be on the inside, and secondly the two inside pockets will be on opposite sides, so the phone pocket would be right next to me. If I hold the bag the right way round, the zip is on the outside so nowhere near my hand, so not very convenient or safe.

I can't really go back to the shop now, can I? I can't really prove anything, and I picked it up a few hours ago and I don't want to be that customer. Should I just leave it?

I feel really out of sorts about it, but I know what it's going to look like if I take it back to the shop and I really don't want to be a difficult customer.

You could always wear it on the other shoulder!

I know, absolutely impossible, I just tried putting my bag on my wrong side and it felt weird.

Leavesofautumn · 04/09/2020 18:17

No way. I've been carrying my bag on the same shoulder my whole life.

Presumably you know what brand your handbag is? Not sure that everyone else needs to know.

The brand label is made of metal and gets very hot in the summer, so if I put it against me that would hurt.

I think you would probably very quickly become used to the zip being the new way round. If you really don’t and can’t bring yourself to go back to the shop, although I think they will apologise and rectify it for you, you could always take it elsewhere for the zip to be out back on the right way round.

It wouldn't get hot if its on the inside.

I would take it back, tell them you have only just noticed and request that they correct it. My husband had a similar issue recently with the zip on a sports top and the tailor simply unpicked the work and re-did it. It really wasn't a problem.

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 04/09/2020 18:31

Go on then. Tell us the brand.

Leavesofautumn · 04/09/2020 18:32

It isn't an expensive or famous brand. It's not a designer label.

Can't you just carry it as normal but unzip it from the other direction? I'm struggling to see the difficulty.

Also if the metal logo gets so hot it can hurt you then I'm not sure it's a very good bag after all. Who'd have thought of that danger. It's just as well summer is over and the danger has passed for now.

ChaChaCha2012 · 04/09/2020 18:36

I can't stand showy brand labels, wearing it the 'wrong' way round sounds like a good thing to me. As above, the label won't get hot if it's on the inside.

SchmooobyDoo · 04/09/2020 21:21

Definitely bring it back. Of course the shop will understand, a genuine mistake by them I’d have thought?
